November 4 found the Celtics at Willamette University for the state championships. Although drawing bad field posi- tion at the start, lVlcNary advanced to 14th in a state renouned for producing great distance runners. Seven hungry Celtics were ready for a win in the season's opener against dallas. The Celtic powerhouse went on to an undefeated dual-meet season. The cross- town rivals were little match for coach Fors' harriersg they shut out North Salem with a perfect 15 points and trounced South Salem four straight times. The Willamette Valley invitational combined the leading teams from throughout the Northwest. When the mud had settled, coach Fors found his Celts in almost a dead heat for second place behind Lake Oswego from over forty teams competing. 1 . ..., -- . .al I ' S 1 ' it 1 i t s W x , Lvql H ' ' l f F' i I W i A N ,IFE f M ' f' ,E hp ,1,,k ..,. .tm N T ' .. ff. , if - or it ge. ,LS . Shown above is Pat Kennedy, practicing the butterfly, during a practice session. Throughout the 67-69 Swimming Season, McNary was well represented by their teams. The boys team won the first meet of their short history against Lebanon. Although the girls were not as successful as the boys, they still made a fine showing. McNary's coaches were Morris Jimenez for the boys and Georgia Cutler for the girls' team. Right: Girls' Coach, Miss Cutler, instructing the girls' team during practice.
