1980 Totem Dedication The TOTEM this year is dedicated to a very spe- cial person known all around the McMurry cam- pus. .James Robert Allen, known to his friends around campus as .Jim. has lived in Abilene since he was three years of age. He began his formal education when he was five, spending most of his elementary years attending the Rehabilitation Center, and being one of the original nine stu- dents. that had its initial beginning as the “Special Education” class located in the basement of La- mar School. Jim gave the invocation at the groundbreaking of the new West Texas Rehabili- tation center. Jim attended Jefferson Jr. High and is a graduate of Cooper High School where he had the privilege of associating for several years with Coach Merrill Green and his Cooper Cougars. He has always been obsessed with any kind of sports, especially football, and since elementary school has managed to be connected to athletics in one way or another. Jim received his Bachelor of Sci- ence degree from McMurry College in 1975. major- ing in Recreation and minoring in mathematics. He has always been a strong supporter of McMurry. He was a member of Alpha Sig social club and for several years has enjoyed working with the coaches and the Indian football team. He is active in F.C.A. and in intramurals; where he has his own team Jim's Wheels . He is the Hon- orary Theta Chi Guy. and in 1978 he was the T.I.P. Sing Song dedicatee. In 1972, the MCM student body surprised him with a Voyager Cart at Homecoming, which has proved useful in his ac- tivities around campus. Jim is also a member of the Fairmont Methodist Church.
