Dr. Humphrey was named administrative assis- tant to the President at MeMurry in August of 1963 after serving the college as academic dean since 1955. He was a history and government teacher at MeMurry from 1931 to 1933 Dr Humphrey received his bachelor of arts de- gree from Southwestern University at Georgetown in 1930; his master of arts from Southern Method- ist University in 1931. and his doctor of education from George Peabody College in 1952. He has received many honors in academic cir- cles and served as a member of the Texas Legisla- ture from 1940 to 1946 He was chairman of the committee on education He was president of the Texas State Teachers Association in 1949; Vice- President in 1948; and chairman of the Legislative Commute of TSTA Dr Humphrey has been ex- tremely active in the Kiwants Club and serves on the Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club He is a Mason and is a member of the Methodist Church, having served as a member and a chair- man of the official board at St. Paul Methodist Church He is a Sunday School Teacher of the Excel Men's Class He is a former scoutmaster, and Eagle Scout, and chairman of the advance- ment committee of the Chisholm Trail Council Dr Humphrey and Mrs. Humphrey live at 1801 Sayles Blvd , and their son. Joe Clark Humphrey, is a MeMurry College graduate and teaches at Cooper High School in Abilene. What can be said for two men that put their all into their students lives and into making each day a beautiful experience for all with whom they come into contact. All who know these men feel a deep respect and pride in the value of their relationship. People such as Mr Michael Barry and Dr. Joe Humphrey make living worthwhile and also develop a great deal of challenge for everyone in which they meet. It is with great pride, admiration and love that the 1978 TOTEM is dedicated to these two fine men of MeMurry College. Dedication — 17

Mr. Michael Barry Michael R. Barry received his Bache- lor of Music Education and Master of Arts Degrees from West Texas State University in Canyon. Texas. He worked in the public school systems in the towns of Shamrock. Big Lake, and Borger. While in Shamrock. Barry received the Outstanding Citizen Award in 1967. Prior to launching his leaching career, he served as an officer in the United States Army and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service at Fort Sill. Oklahoma in 1965. Just prior to coming to MeMurry Col- lege as director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music, he served the First United Methodist Church of Borger in a full time capacity as Lay Associate to the Pastor. Mr. Barry in a short time has become well known and loved at MeMurry Col- lege. Students have found him available not only for conference about their aca- demic problems, but also for their per- sonal problems. Mr. Barry has become more than just a good teacher, he has also become a good friend. 16 - Dedication 2 HI H O H oo- jvo
