BENNETT MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT As we observe life on this campus, we are convinced that each individual is responsible for his own success or failure. This is not to suggest that influences beyond our control may not cause some mutation of our efforts but, by and large, we determine the breadth and depth of our undertakings and their fruit. The Lord has made each of us a free moral agent with the right to choose our own paths in relationship to God, man and knowledge. Then the responsibility is all ours as to how to make the choices, and what may result from the choices we make. There are three major areas wherein each of us make our choices with result- ing satisfaction or disappointment. The first of these is the utilization of our time. There is plenty of time for work, play and rest if we schedule it properly. Too much time designated to any one of these areas automatically penalizes the others. The second area over which we have responsibility is the utilization of our talents. Success, happiness and real achievement comes as we utilize all our talents in the most worthwhile activities. Finally, a vast storehouse of resources is placed all around us. Trained faculty advisors are here to serve us. Professional teachers are not only in the class- room but are in their offices to assist us outside of classes. Thousands of books, pictures, and other resource materials are available to us. The best social programs are around us. The finest friends are ours with the offering of our friendship. Spiritual counsel is offered to us and the opportunity to worship God is ever present about us. The list is illimitable of all the resources at our call to help us, inspire us, and encourage us, but they are responsive only if we call on them, seek them out and accept their aid. Yes, I am convinced that each of us hold in our hand the key to success, happiness, and joyful achievement, if we will use it. All the elements are here. It is up to us to accept them. 136 Gordon R.
