What is a classroom? Learning at McMinnville High School takes place in many different settings with many different activities. The traditional lecture hall has given way to an informal atmosphere where discussion and research can take place. Many different laboratories provide the chance for students to test theories and carry out projects. Some classrooms provide the opportunity for students to practice—to develop the skills necessary for the upcoming game or concert, or to produce a newspaper or yearbook. Still other learning experiences take students out of the classroom to businesses in the community, to Trestle Glen. Yearbook photographers have roamed the halls of McMinnville High School in an attempt to capture the variety of settings and activities which contributed to the learning process in 1975. Their record serves in part as an answer to the question: What is a classroom ? 29

Discussion plays important role Whether in History or Communications Seminar, Anthropology, Ag Skills, or in foreign language classes, discussion was an important learning activity. This year students in Poetry I and II, Creative Writing, and Humanities had a special opportunity to discuss poetry with Poet-in-Residence Ralph Salisbury. In a new course. Stage II, students read and discussed plays and then traveled to Ashland where they attended performances of each of the plays. Psychology and Sociology students conducted interesting experiments which served as the basis for group discussions.
