Spirit Week draws Grizzly roars “Homecoming is a special time to promote school spirit,” said 1974 Homecoming Queen Diane Mitchell, who reigned over a spirited assembly and an exciting football game. Filled with excitement and fun things to do. Spirit Week was a tremendous success. The kick-off for the week was a Monday evening poster party at which each class entered a poster representing the motto, “Grizzlies Roar When They Smell Something Fishy.” Tuesday was declared “Hat Day.” and Wednesday was named ‘Ked and White Day.” At the evening noise parade a carefree crowd noisily marched through the streets of McMinnville to the downtown parking lot where the royal court was introduced. The day’s excitement ended with a sock hop. Following Thursday’s “Button Day,” a top-off for the lively week was Friday’s “Jersey Day,” when Queen Diane was presented to the student body. Humorous class skits and the knighting of team captains, Craig Winkler and Terry Otte, were highlights of the assembly. A win over Astoria Friday evening drew Grizzly roars which didn’t subside until after the traditional dance which honored this year the Class of 1966. nonoi Football players compete in turkey bump for the homecoming assembly in class competition.
