50 YEARS OF PROGRESS Fifty years ago, the newly-formed Lincoln High School yearbook staff published the first record of school life, the Lincolnian. This year, 1962, we celebrate our fiftieth anniversary with a new yearbook name, the McMinnyillan. The first yearbook was quite different from the modern yearbook in the way it was published. The same general subjects were covered, but the presentation of them has been changed. The yearbook of 1912 was characterized by a great deal of literary content and few pictures. The modern yearbook tells a story in pictures, with few wordy explanations. The printing process of the book has also been revolutionized. The old way of half-tone zinc etching was complicated and costly. Lithography has now taken its place. To celebrate the fifty years of progress, the design and arrangement of the book have also been improved. Events ore arranged in the order they occurred through the year. The cover is designed with the first full-color picture ever used on a McMinnville High School yearbook. Of course, the greatest change of all since 1912 is in the school itself. Trends in educational philosophy and activities have changed nearly as much as the clothing styles have in fifty years. May we present our record of this fiftieth year. 6

STUDENT LIFE 19X2 Chemistry — a world of test tubes, sparkling mixtures, and complicated symbols. Fifty years ago, few high schools offered adequate chemistry facilities for experimentation and research. Today, our laboratories are complete with modern supplies and chemicals. But chemistry isn't the only science that has advanced. Biology, a course required of all sophomores, is being modernized by an experimental nation-wide program. The regular senior college preparatory English course is being taught to a specially-selected group of juniors. Also, a special math analysis program is being taken by junior and senior students. These are only a few of the reasons for which McMinnville High School is praised for its academic program, and it seems fitting that these new programs were started fifty years after the first record was printed of our school.
