Officers Guide Activities v - The Associated Student Body Officers are Doug Cushing, Mike Powell, Judy Morton, Kevin McGillivray, and Carolyn Christensen. 16 President of the associated Student Body of McMinnville High School, chairman of student council, and chief rep-resentitive for the student body are just a few of the many jobs of President Kevin McGillivray (third). Vice President Mike Powell (first) acted as chairman of the Assembly Committee and presided at all assemblies. Secretary Carolyn Christensen (fourth) was kept well occupied recording all student body proceedings and answering the correspondence for the student body. Treasurer Judy Morton(second) accurately balanced the books and gave a report to the Student Council each month. Doug Cushing (fifth), as sergeant-at-arms, maintained order in council meetings and assemblies and called the student body to assemblies over the public address system. The backbone of McMinnville high school is the student council. This group is made up of students representing various classes. They decide the major school issues. The girls who aided the office staff with the many duties of the day were, SEATED: S. Krieger, K. De-Paolo, S. Merchant, D. Delker, B. Miller, S. Eliason, STANDING: R. Krieger, L. Robinson, D. Shank, and Sandy Bride. 18 Orville Oleson, Ed Rodgers and Francis Sharp, our custodial staff, are proud of our high school, and we should help them keep it spotless and clean. Lunch room cooks who supply food to the students are Mrs. Pat Latimer, Mrs. Ruth Wright and Mrs. Helen Olson. Busses bring the outlying students in to school. These three drivers pick up the high school students and carry them to the junior high where they are distributed to their correct busses. 19 This view shows the science wing of the nigh school when the year opened in September. Moving the dirt and hurrying to meet deadlines so that students could move into the new facilities, were part of the workmen's jobs. The workmen seemed to appreciate their coffeebreaks more when the Girls' League served them coffee and doughnuts. 20 The chemistry class found themselves on the balcony when school opened, sharing it with two biology classes. Students took full advantage of the new chemistry facilities after its completion and found they had plenty of room for experiments. Serving as a paint storage room was the main function of the chemistry room during the early months of school. 21 Classrooms of the department looked like this when school opened in September. The biology classes had to use the balcony of the gym as classrooms for the first part of the school year. The new biology rooms made the class more enjoyable to the students. The gymnasium serves as an auditorium for all assemblies, concerts, and student body meetings. Hallways are crowded with students as classes change throughout the day. Science students give rapt attention to vivisection of a turtle during the travel science lecture series. As the graduating class of 1961 leaves our school the juniors and sophomores move ahead to higher goals of life. The next class comes in with new ideas and lots of spirit. Senior class officers; Left to Right: Jeanie Fryer, Secretary; Mike Saunders, Sergeant-at- Arms; Mike Keller, President; Phil Gilson, Vice President; and Susan Thomas, Treasurer.
