Lincoln High School Was Built in 1910 . . . The original high school building was a frame structure located near the present Cook elementary school. Four floors of this building have seen extensive use during the past 50 years. The top floor was condemned by the fire marshal in 1948; the third floor received fire warnings in 1955 and again in 1958. It has been used during the past two years because of increased enrollment. and Grew . . . The gymnasium-auditorium building was added in the 1920’s. This building was used for all basketball games from 1928 until 1948 when the McMinnville Armory was rented for games. The Armory was used until 1956 when the new Junior High School gym was finished. This gym has been used for games ever since. The stage has been the setting for many fine dramatic and musical productions over the years. The rooms on the right were added in 1954 and include a chorus room, bandroom, and two classrooms. District Plans Move of High School and Grew . . . The vocational building was built in 1939 and included ag. shops, an industrial arts shop, home economics, business education, and a science lab. The four rooms on the right of the entrance were added in 1948.

With an ever increasing enrollment, the once-adequate facilities of McMinnville High became inadequate, overcrowded, and outmoded. The picture above, left, shows the crowded conditions of the hallways as the students change classes. Another hindrance is the lack of facilities in many classes. Kay Benedict, above, right, is shown using the one sink that has to accommodate the entire biology department. Because of too few classrooms to accommodate Mac Hi’s many students, many classrooms must be used for several classes. This creates a problem of storage for the supplies and equipment that are used in these classes. Below, left, Larry Welch is working on his science fair project for advanced biology. This particular classroom is used for advanced biology, all art courses, and algebra. Another disadvantage of the present school is the inadequate space for lunchroom facilities. Below, right, is an example of the lunch line which forms each day, filling the hallway and blocking the stairs. 3
