ASB 0fHcers Cooperate For Student Betterment ...1 W., 1. Student Body Officers. FIRST ROW: Treasurer Tom Elliott, President Kathy Beal, Secretary Libby Brown. SECOND ROW: Sergeant- af-Arms Gordon McKay, Vice President Cy Warren. President of the Associated Student Body of Nlc- Nlinnville High School, chairman of student coun- cil, and chief correspondent for the student body just began the list of responsibilities for President Kathy Beal. Vice President Cy XYarren took Kathfs place in her absence, acted as chairman of the Assembly Committee, presided at all assemblies and arranged for exchange assemblies. Recording all student bodv proceedings and is- suing student body cards and pictures kept Secre- tarv Libbv Brown well occupied. Treasurer Tom Elliott accuratelv balanced the books and gave a report to the Student Council each month. As sergeant-at-arms Gordon Mcliav maintained order -in council meetings and assemblies, acted as chairman of the Clean-Up Committee, and called the student bodv to assemblies over the public ad- dress svstem. The purpose of education is to develop Democ- racy as a way of life. The Student Council endeav- ors to assist in that purpose. The council does this by promoting better spirit and interest in the welfare of the school, by encouraging the students to use the ideals of Democracy, and bv developing the un- derstanding andthe habits of high standards of good citizenship. The members, each of whom represents li students, meet each second and fourth YVednes- day. One of the Student Council's major projects was the annual Homecoming festivities. ln its concern for school welfare, the Student Council developed a Code of Conduct set up to guide the student in evervdav student life. To demonstrate the function of the council to the Student bodv, the council mem- bers produced a model Student Council meeting in the gvm. XYith the completion of regular business, the council was joined bv the student bodv for a disa. cussion of school problems. The Student Council also sponsored a joint council meeting with the Hillsboro High School Council at Nlac Hi and sev- eral members attended the District Four Student Council Conference in Corvallis.
