WHO’S WHO? BETTY ENGEL—Betty has served as Student Body Vice-President this year. Among her many duties was the chairmanship of the newly organized assembly committee. Under her leadership the students enjoyed many interesting programs. Betty had the honor of being elected DAR Representative by her classmates. She is also one of the charter members of the Honor Society. As a member of the Collect-O-Peps, she participated in many school activities. With all these duties she also found time to work on the advertising staff of the school paper. RICHARD PERRY—Richard joined the class in the junior year and lifted the scholastic average several points through his efforts. Perhaps his outstanding achievement is the high rating reported for him in the Pepsi-Cola test. He assisted with the stage production of the class play and took an active part in Boy’s Chorus. RUTH KLUCKMAN—“Editing a school paper is fun,” according to Ruth, “but it is also work! The things I do for that paper! In addition to the press duties, Ruth has been active in G.A.A., Girl’s League, dramatics, Collect-O-Peps, and the honor society. During vacation she was a delegate to Girl’s State. She finds time for reading, some writing, and general social activities outside of school. Her ready wit endears her to her classmates. JIM McALEAR—Jim, better known as Mac, is an easy going, friendly person whom everyone likes to have around. Jim is always ready to help. His big activities have been football and forensics. He has also been a member of the “M” Club and displayed his talents as the male lead in the Senior Class Play. Although not a school activity, he has taken an active part in Boy Scouts and journeyed to France during the summer of 1947 to participate in the Scout Jamboree. JACK McPHILLIPS—Jack, who is known to his many friends as “Shorty, has been active in many school affairs during his high school years. He served as the president of the class in his junior year, has been active in athletics, is a member of the “M Club, and also has worked on the McMinnvillan staff. Snapping pictures of his camera-shy friends is a hobby which has contributed greatly to the annual. JEAN SEASTRAND—Jean is the always gracious and friendly gal who can be depended upon to turn in an excellent performance no matter what the task. She has been a member of the Student Council for two of her three years at Mac Hi; has lent a hand to all the productions where artistry was needed; guided the Collect-O-Peps who named her president; was a reporter on the school paper, and edited this year’s Lincolnian. Jean was also chosen as one of the charter members of the Honor Society. JACK DIES—Jack is well known in all phases of ASB government and social functions, as he has served on practically all the committees and offices that have charge of this part of student life. His high scholastic standing automatically placed him in line for the Pepsi-Cola Scholarship exams, and the Honor Society. He has also taken part in athletics and is an “M Club member. JANET RUTHERFORD—Trim, neat Janet has served as the Student Body Secretary, was a representative to Girl’s State and has served on many committees and clubs during her two years in Mac Hi. She was one of three senior girls who were chosen as Song Leaders, and also was elected a member of the newly organized Honor Society. During the past two years she has been a reporter on the school paper as well as a contributor to the annual. Janet carries with her the spirit of happiness and cheerfulness at all times. JOAN RIANDA—Being president of the Girl’s League has been Joan’s main activity, but she has managed to keep in touch with her other activities which include Student Council,, G.A.A., F.H.A., Rainbow, and reporting on the school paper. Her quiet efficient manner has endeared her to her friends and everyone in school knows and admires her. LARRY SLEMP—Although Larry came to MHS from Kettle Falls, Washington only two years ago, his pleasant personality and quiet studious ways have made him popular in all student circles. He has been an active member of the FFA and served as president of the Honor Society. In addition to these activities, he is a letterman in football. His efficient manner will assure him success in whatever he attempts. HOPE CORNER—The statement, “Where there’s life, there’s Hope, truly suits this brown haired lass, who came to McMinnville as a junior. Not only has she held a high scholastic average during her two years at Mac Hi, but she has served as treasurer of the Senior Girls and is a charter member of the newly formed Honor Society. She has been active on clubs and committees, contributing much to social functions with her talents and clever interpretations. EUGENE JOHNSON—The post of president has been occupied by Gene Johnson, a leader in practically all the student body functions and social activities. Gene is a letterman in athletics and band and has contributed to the dramatics and music departments. He was chosen as one of the initial members of the newly organized Honor Society.
