Eager to start our high school career we soon were busy with all the new subjects. After a few weeks we chose the following class officers: President, John Kimberlin, Vice President, Larry Fuquag Secretary Marcia Clinesg Treasurer, Iirn Wonnell. Mrs. Carolyn Moon started us off right as our first sponsor. Another first for us was a roller-skating party in Lawrence. A bowling party in Lawrence ended our freshman year. I As silly sophomores we retumed to MRHS in September, 1961, With one year down and three to go, we elected our new class officers: President, Mike Beary Vice-President, Larry Fuquag Secretary, Orpha Genslerg Treasurer, Jim Wonnell. Mrs. loan Carlson was elected our sophomore class sponsor. A movie in Lawrence was our first class party of the year and a hayrack ride to the State Lake was an enjoyable finale. At the halfway point of our high school careers we entered MRI-IS in 19 62. As jolly juniors we chose the following leaders: President, Larry Fuquag Vice President, Mike Bearg Secretary, Orpha Genslerg Treasurer, Iohn Kimberlin. Our choice of sponsors were Mrs. Laurie Van De Mark and Mr. Ralph Bradley. We went to a phony sanitarium for our junior play 'Bolts and Nuts, which was the first hit of the year. This year we also went to a movie and had a hay-rack ride for our class parties. Palm trees, colorful leis, and island music welcomed our guests to the junior-senior prom, Blue Hawaii, in April. Fifteen sophisticated seniors arrived at MRHS in September, 1963, looking forward to our year at the top. To head the high and mighty seniors we chose: President, Cheri Schwinng Vice President, Mike Beary Secretary, Orpha Genslerg Treasurer, Larry Fuqua. For our class sponsors we chose Mrs. Laurie Van De Mark and Mr. William Hanson. We will always remember the exciting events of the year, such as our senior play, senior sneak, Baccalaureate, Class Night, and the big night of Graduation. Soon, it was all over and we set out on our own, some to work, some to the services, and some to college. As we look back on the events of the past four years, we say farewell to all our classmates, teachers, sponsors, and dear old MRHS. The Senior Class of 1963-64 Classwillz We, the Seniors of '64, being of sound mind and body, do hereby proclaim this to be our last will and testament at MRHS, hereby revoking any will or wills heretofore made by us. Ima Ambler wills her safe driving ability to Gary Welliver and she refuses to will her car to anyone. Carol Rogers wills her blonde hair to Vicki Kranz and her boyfriends to anyone who can handle them. Mike Bear wills his size 11 1X2 hush puppies to the city dump and his nervousness to anybody. Mike Smoots wills his Ford to anyone who thinks he can drive it and his wavy hair to Coach Patterson. ,Tim Wonnell wills the light spots in his hair to Randy Cartwright and his ability to get along with math and science teachers CMI. Knoxj to Paul Bartlett. Tom Cadue wills his athletic abilities to the Freshman boys and his clever ways to Pat McManus and Joe Masque. Floyd Pentlin wills his studying abilities to his brother George and his pep club sweater to any boy willing to take his place. Bill Murr wills his almost running blue Ford to Mike Woodhead and his Home Ec. ability to Bill Fuqua. John Kimberlin wills his driving ability to Carolyn Snook and his car to Mr. Bradley. David Rollins wills his math and science ability to Roger Cartwright and his way of getting along with teachers to Pat McManus. Orpha Gensler wills her shy ways to Cheryl Seaver and refuses to will her stuffed animals to anyone. Larry Fuqua wills his football ability to Ricky Smoots and his good looks to anybody who will take them. Mike McManus wills his way with girls to Roger Cartwright and his driving ability to George Rains. Cheri Schwinn wills her quiet ways around boys to Mary Chapman and Nancy Lobb. Garry Newman wills his height to Gary Bowie and his bad habits to anyone who can break them. Attest: SENIORS OF '64 Witnesses: fi ' J 611-lv fm? ' Class Pwpltwg It is now the year of 1974. We visit the past graduates of '64. To begin our long venture we return to ole' MRI-IS. There we visit William Hanson, now principal, and our ex-sponsor. He informs us of the addresses of our classmates. So we begin our trip at McLouth with Garry Newman. Garry has made a success as Mayor of the thriving metropolis, McLouth, Kansas. We give him our regards and head for the small suburb, Kansas City. We are suddenly stopped as we notice a large billboard stating the grand opening of Gens1er's Beauty Salon. Finding Orpha's special price of 575 for a permanent rather expensive we ,move on. Onward to Nevada, we enter the city of Reno. We stop at Harold's Club to see Mike McManus. Mike was rather in a bad pinch, because he had his arm caught in a slot machine. He didn't have much to say except HELP. We wish him luck but we have to catch our train to San Francisco. In San Francisco, the first person we see is Cheri Schwinn. She says it has been a long hard struggle, but she finally made it to Hollywood. Somehow we always felt that she would. She tells us that her greatest handicap has been her ten children. Cheri is now filming, for M-G-M, her latest movie, Pity Me. Believe me, we do, but we must gas up and head for the desert. Traveling rather speedily, we almost choke Bill Murr with our dust. He has his own Ford Company among the cacti. Between begging for water and giving his sales pitch, he didn't have much to say. Bill tells us of the nearest oasis, so we bid him farewell and travel on our way. Badly in need of water, we finally reach the oasis. Our attention is drawn to a harem of thirty females. We inquire as to whom the harem belongs, the name Sahib Wonnell is brought to our attention. Talking with Jimmy's secretary, we are allowed to visit with him at once. Jimmy says he is doing fine and is having a wonderful time. After quenching our thirst, we discussed old memories and decide to revisit the scene of our senior sneak. We arrived at the Lodge of the Ozarks just in time for the event of the year, the greased pig race. A small barefoot boy steps up and gives us a handbill stating Van De Mark vs. McCoys. He also tells us to root for the Van De Marks and then tells us his name is Gregg. We ask him if Laurie takes part in the race and he says yep, 'Ma and Pa and us eight youngun's beat them McCoys every year. We have to miss this race in order to catch one in Indianapolis. We heard that a classmate is trying for champion and we arrive just in time to hear the beginning gun and the take off ofthe souped up cars. It appears to be a close race, but at the second turn Ima takes a fantastic lead. Shifting into second she takes a victory and a trophy. We were all quite proud of her driving ability until she backed over the judges. Good luck in court, Ima! Feeling slightly hungry we look for a drive-in so we can get a snack to hold us over until we get to New York. Finding an Allen's Drive-In we decide to stop. We find to our amazement that a classmate, Floyd Pentlin, is managing a string of Allen's from coast to coast. Upon this discovery we present him with the check. Being quite proud of his collection of sport cars, he shows us his assortment of 16 Thunderbirds, in every color imaginable. Feeling faint from over-indulging or possible indigestion, we try to locate a physician. We spot the shingle of Mike Bear, M.D., and decide to give him a try. Exhausted from a hard day, and eight sets of twins, Mike is rather weary. We talk over old times and in the END we get medical treatment. While sitting in the bus depot, we pick up a Chicago newspaper with bold headlines, CADUE CHARGERS VERSUS HARLEM GLOBETROTTERSNBOTH UNDEFEATED. We knew Tom would go places with his basketball ability. The article says that Tom owes his whole career to NUTRA- MENT I I I We boarded our bus and headed for the East. We have heard that one of our classmates is teaching at an all girls school, Vassar. Much to our amazement we find Larry Fuqua teaching advanced aerodynamics to the first women astronauts. Knowing Larry's head for math and his keen eye for girls he picked a marvelous school to begin his teaching career. We make our way to the Waldorf Astoria for dinner, and while we are there we see an old classmate, Carol Rogers. She tells us she is working for 20th Century Fox Studios as a fashion designer. Her latest creation is the stretchless stretchpants. We wish her millions and travel on. C As we leave the Waldorf we hear some loud whistles and we run into Navy man, John Kimberlin, who has just been named Navy muscle-man of the year. He tells us that the Navy is quite the life. We are saying hello when suddenly a couple of beautiful blondes come up and lead John away. Our visit to the East would not be complete unless we visited the great city of Washington. There we find David Rollins has just thrown in his hat for President of the United States. The only other running candidate is Caroline Kennedy. Good Luck, David, and we'll all vote for you. Finally we fly to Cape Canaveral, Florida. Upon our arrival we get to see the shooting of the S-13. We find the S is for Smoots and the 13 is for the number of times Mike has been launched and failed. It looks as if Mike has made No. 14 a successful flight, and as he shoots off into space we bid farewell. Whew,s-it has been a long but enjoyable trip. It is remarkable what the graduates of '64 have contributed to our society in only ten years. We hope the future will see them even more successful. , 1 Q 5 if ' l F f .
