CLASS HISTORY One September morning, twelve years ago, a group of scared little six-year olds came to McLeansville School for the first time. Some of us ended up with torn dresses or overalls, or with tears in our eyes,others were setting out on this great adventure bravely, There are only eleven of this group graduating this year, They arf: Kay R e e s e , Marshall White, Russell Smith, Kyle Stewart, Mary Jane McLean, Louise Dawson, Marie Hill, Sara Garrison, Marie Lowdermilk, Gerry Kenne dy, and Nancy Gerringer, Some have moved away and others have married, Srimehow be twe en our fighting over the little red c hair , our failures, our a- chievements, and the kindne s s of our teacher, Mrs. Mildred Smathers, we were promoted to Mrs. Earnest Smith's second grade, This year Barba ra La Marr and Elsie Hutchens joined our class. Then came the third grade and Miss Gertude Rule . Eva Nell Kirkman, David Kirkman, and Alton Kennedy became our class mate s but Barbara LaMarr moved away this year. In the fourth grade Jerry Newsome joined our class. Mrs.Cora Clapp showed us just how big the world was through her teaching of geography. This yea r Gerry Kennedy moved away, When we ente re cl the fifth grade we were separated for the fi r st time. Mrs. Vernon Morton, taught one section of our class and Mrs. Coltrane taught the other. Then at Thanksgiving ou r school ourned. We attended class in the Community Build- ing. This year we were glad to welcome Joyce Owens to our class. Next we were sent to the sixth grade with Mrs. Apple and Mrs. Owens as our teachers. We learned to make pot holders and to spatte r paint in addition to our regular studies. Mrs. Owen s and Mrs. Hopkins were our pilots through our seventh year. Most of us worked hard and re ceived a go ahead sign to the eighth grade, This year we met our first man teach- er, He was Mr. Guyer. After nine months of struggle, Mr. Guyer sent us up to the ninth grade. Now we were at la st in High School! Mr. Don Haithcox wa s our home room teacher. Other faculty membe r s were Mrs, Garland Clapp, Mrs. Jewell Kearns, Mr, Daniel Mcltley, Mr. E. A. Adams, and Mr. Herman Owens. As mo s t first-year high school students, we had to buckle down and work harder. We w e l c om e d David Moss to our c l a s s and we re very glad to have Gerry Kennedy rejoin it after leaving us in the fourth grade In our sophomore yea r Mr. Bowden and Mrs. Sarah Haithcox became new mem- bers of our faculty, Mrs. Haithcox, who was also our homeroom teacher, sent us on to the eleventh grade with flying colors. Harry Oakley became a new member of our class this year and we were happy to wel- come Barbara LaMarr back again as our classmate. How happy we were then to be classed as Juniors. Things really started happen- ing now. Firstwe selected our class rings. Then our Junior Play which was HEADIN FOR A WEDDINI' Andlastwas our Junior- Senior Prom which was the mostimportant event of the year, and we thought the best prom ever given. But none of these things would have gone off nearly so well without the wonderful help and guidance of Mr. and Mrs. Motley. This year Wayne Clapp and Nancy Hicks joined our cla s s. Mrs. Whisonant and Mrs.Motleywere the new members of the faculty. At long last we had reached our goal. We were Seniors! We we re now at the top looking down on the others, This year we had quite a few ne w faculty inembcrs. They were Miss Marie Essa, Mrs, Avery, and Mr. Hicks. We we re bu sy as little bees the whole year, First we ordered our invitations, then caps and gowns, then diplorr1as,and with much work we published the annual. We gave our Senior Play which was MUMBO-JUMBO . We took part in May Day. The most important event was at hand, This was GRADUATION. And then what next! Some plan to enter ccllegeg some to take full-time jobs, and others to get married, No matter which the case may be, we realize that our lives are really just be ginning and that Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
