He was a member of the band during all four years in high school, and has at all times proved his loyalty to M.T.H.S. Fred's Warm and friendly smile, his quick Wit, and his cheery greeting have won for him a Warm spot in the hearts of his classmates and faculty alike. Carolyn Fagan was acclaimed the most popular girl after an exciting race in which Elva Tucker ran a close second. Caro1yn's warm friendliness, school spirit, and leadership have combined to make her the most popular girl in M.T.H.S. Carolyn's high school record insures a happy, successful life. During our sophomore year we entered into activities and discovered that there really wasn't anything to be afraid of. Some of us turned into colored Hawaiian girls to help serve the starving juniors and seniors at their lunior-Senior Banquet. Now, we, the junior class of M.'l'.H.S., bring you a few of the highlights oi this year. We as juniors had the pleasure of entertaining the seniors at the lunior-Senior Prom and to attend ourselves for the first time. For the informa- tion of those who couldn't attend, it made a pretty picture, the girls and boys all dressed formally. We have come through our years at M.T.H.S. without too many mishaps and only have one year leit to go, but we have come to the stage where we use the SLOW sign. Because we are growing up and are having serious thoughts about the future, we have decided to take things easy and plan a little ahead, We'll see all of you nice people next year as good solid seniors. Seated: Sandusky, Prendergast, Lasater. Smedley. Standing: Mrs. Witter. Mr. McClure. Sophomore Officers and Sponsors Silly sophsl Silly sophs. Yes, that's what they call us, and it fits us to a At least the situation has changed slightly, and we aren't the ones who are wearing silly clothes and becoming scape-goats for the rest of the school. lt wasn't halt as bad as We thought or acted though. Now We are somebody! Some of us are club officers, football and basket- ball heroes and don't forget-almost upperclassmen. We stay out later, act a tiny bit more like grown-ups. M.T.l-l.S. is more a part ot us every day- the crash of locker doors at four. After game dances, exams, slumber parties, dates, and all the countless things that make high school our four best years. Last fall We met and elected our class officers: president, Allen Lasater, vice-president, Sue Smedley, secretary-treasurer, Tom Prendergast, student leader, Ronnie Sandusky. Our sponsors are Mrs. Witter and Mr. McClure. They have helped us very much with their advice and interest in our plans and ambitions. VVe hope that in our next two years we may take more part in the activities of the school and set a good example for the coming classes. 14252 Sophomores . . . Freshman Officers and Sponsors Our freshman year in high school! We wandered through the halls wide- eyed, and full of questions. Surely, we were greenfbut we were proud ol it! My, we felt so grown up-so much older. . .We were living in a wonderful world all our own. A lovely, gay, enthusiastic, funny and blissful society. Ours is a world of sweaters and shirts and bobby sox and loafers. lt is a world still devoted to parents who are pals even if we do us the telephone too much. lt is a world of algebra, English . . . peanut butter and popcorn . . . and cokes at Ronnies , . . football games, basketball games . . . with two of our classmates selected as cheerleaders, Marilyn Lee and loyce White. The freshman class held a class meeting to elect its officers and class advisors. By this time, the freshmen were in a big whirl of school activities, their own activities and were up to their ears in studies. But all in all, the freshmen admit that being a freshman is an exciting adventure. Now they come to the end of their year with their minds stuffed with that thing called education and are looking forward to next year. 44322 lames Adams William Alexander Ierry Allen Larry Aydt Patricia Bethel Ann Bowling Iohn Braden Richard Braden Beulah Brent Barbara Bridwell Ianet Brockett Lois Burnett David Busby Bobbie Campbell Iohn Dale George Dean Carl Denham Sue Dietz Leroy Digby Woodrow Digby Bruce Eaton A. The members of this club have been quite active, and interest in the scientific field has increased through their efforts. This increase of interest plus the encouragement of students in their individual scentific pursuits is the purpose of this club. Variety in the programs this year has promoted en- thusiasm in the organization. The members have enjoyed lectures by local people associated with the field of science. Football Football serves, as nothing else in the school does, to promote school spirit and to unite the students in a feeling of loyalty for each other, for the team, and for the school. As the season progressed, the team became a well-drilled, hard-driving team, which acted with the precision of a fine Watch. Most of the plays were run from the T formation. The line, Weighing more this year than usual, did a splendid job in opening up the vital holes tor the ball carriers and in stop- ping the foe's offensive thrusts. Possibly one of the greatest difficulties of the team was the lack ot experience. The Foxes got off to a slow start as they didn't score until the fourth game against Cahokia. The seniors on the squad this year were Stephen Bell, Charles Hatcher, lohn Ingram, Bill Nalley, Bob McMahon, Keith lones. lt is difficult to single out any individual star from the Foxes for they did not Work as individuals but as a team. Coach Siville did a very nice job of coaching with Mr. Staff's assistance. Bell served as captain, with Hall as co-captain. They did a good job in lead- ing the Foxes through the entire season. The Foxes were invited back and are expected to put Mclseansboro on the map, as most of the Foxes are juniors and sophomores. They are looking forward to next year's tournament, so let's all go with them and cheer them on. The Foxes got off to a flying start by winning four out of their first five starts, but then it seemed the tide changed as they only won three out of the next ten games. The remainder of the schedule was somewhat even as they won five and lost four. The Foxes next year are in a conference with three other schools, namely Eldorado, fohnston City, and Metropolis. A name for the conference was chosen by the student body of each school. The schools will be competing against each other in not only basketball, but in football and track. The Foxes will lose only two seniors next year. If they keep up the spirit they had this year, the Foxes will be dreaded by all teams in the state.
