This is his story of what took place. I first stopped at Harris’s Coast to Coast Cafe. To my surprise, it was owned by Jon Harris. As I walked in. I bumped into a man in an army uniform. I looked up and recognized Jerry Barr. He told me that he was Commander of the Pacific and was stationed in Hawaii. I learned that Ken Cisco is a surfboard instructor there. Jerry and I decided to look up the rest of the Class of 1963. We started with the girls who had planned to go to college. We learned that Joy Westerfield was head of the home economics depart- ment at ISNU. Mary Marlett is a second grade teacher in Denver, Colorado. Kaye Westerfield. physical education teacher at U. High in Normal, told us that Teresa Danczak is head of the music department at the university of Miami. We decided to visit Jerry's twin brother. Jack, ftesident of Board of Directors of General Motors. We would visit Ken Smiley, President of G.M. while we were there. On the way. we passed a large cabinet factory. The sign said it was owned by Paul Bristow. We went in to see if it was the Paul we went to school with. It was Paul, and he told us that we could talk to Chuck Runge if we would stop at the Runge Implement Company. When we did, Chuck told us his two biggest buyers were Gary Fann and Denny Spaulding. Gary owned the biggest dairy farm in the country. Denny is half owner of the Spaulding Mclntire Research Farms. Next, we decided that we would go through the new County General Hospital. On the way I heard over the radio that Alvin LaMar had just accepted the position as head of the department of agriculture at the University of Iowa. When we arrived at the hospital, we were greeted by Janet Marlett. She told us that she is now married to the chief neurosurgeon. She said that Margaret Glaser is the chief nurse at the hospital. Carole Shrader also works at the hospital, as secretary to the Chief of Staff. That night we went to a basketball game. The M-W Colts, on the way to winning their fifth straight state championship, were coached by John Fox. After the game. Jerry and I parted company. I told him that I would write this letter about what the Class of 1963 is doing. STANFORD GRAIN COMPANY Stanley R. Springer, Manager Elevator on C. A. Railroad Gr ain-Coal- Tile - F encing ALEXANDER LUMBER CO. Coal and lumber supplies Darrell Semple, Manager Ph. 9-2451 Stanford, Illinois Stanford, Illinois HOW WE SPENT OUR TIME The most popular dance of the year was the twist. Of course we enjoyed others: The mashed potatoes, the pony, the limbo, and the bird. There were many records to dance to. These records were made by many different artists. Such records as West of The Wall, End of the World, All Alone Am I, Big Girls Don't Cry, and Let Me In were often heard. Some of the popular artists were Elvis Presley, Brenda Lee, Connie Francis, Chubby Checkers, The Four Seasons, Bobby Darin, and Fabian. Quite a bit of time was spent at the movies. We went to see Days of Wine and Roses, To Kill a Mockingbird, “ Sweet Bird of Youth, West Side Story, Where the Boys Are, Girls, Girls, Girls, The Birds, and Gypsy. Our favorite actors were Elvis Presley, Richard Beymer, John Wayne, James Stewart, Jack Lemmon, Laurence Harvey, Burt Lan- caster, Tony Curtis, and Paul Newman. The most popular actresses were Elizabeth Taylor, Natalie Wood, Jane Fonda, Lee Remick, Sandra Dee, and Connie Francis. Naturally we spent time enjoying the many different school activities. The Freshman Mixer was about the first activity of the year. There were the basketball games which we all enjoyed very much. The many organizations held dances at different times during the year. The band and chorus sponsored parties and gave a concert. It seemed as if we always had something we could do. Even though some of us won’t admit it, we enjoyed our classes in school. We liked learning about history, English, German, Bookkeeping, German, Science, and other things we studied. The simplest way to say it is: We completely enjoyed the way we spent our time during the year 1962-1963! ERNEST A. DRI-GAS SERVICE Phone 949-2061 Waynes ville, Illinois Looking back over four years of high school, different people remember different things. None of the seniors could ever forget the Senior play or the Junior play. The prom will al- ways be remembered by all of the seniors, and they will remember the skip day during the last week of school. Ask any Senior, and he will probably be happy to tell you about the Senior trip. Graduation and Baccalaureate will be among the most vivid memories. Besides these memories of high school which all the Seniors share, each Senior has some special thing that he or she will cherish. Ken Smiley will always remember the day Mr. Leach picked him up by the shirt collar and started shaking him. Teresa Danczak's most memorable moment was when she attended the All State Music Festival in Champaign. Jerry Barr can't forget the day Miss Berry threw him out of class for saying a naughty word when he made a typing error. Chuck Johnson remembers the day fifteen of the boys skipped school and went to Fox's house to watch the State Basketball Tournament. Margaret Glaser remembers the good times she had while she was attending Girls' State in Jacksonville. Carole Shrader will always remember her Senior English class. Janet Marlett had fun during the Senior play. Stella Cisco can't forget the day she got caught skipping school. Gary Fann always thinks about the last day of school. Alvin Lamar remembers the day he squirted Fred Leach with a hose. John Fox remembers the card parties that were held in the furnace room. Jack Barr remembers all the good times he had during high school. Denny Spaulding remembers most his freshman year. Kaye Westerfield remembers all the studying she had to do. Mary Marlett remembers the Prom. Ken Cisco remembers Mr. Monge's P. E. Classes. Jon Harris won't forget how he enjoyed bugging all the teachers. These are the things the seniors don't think they will ever be able to forget. If all these memories were recorded in one book, a most interesting book it would be!
