You can thank these people for this year’s Hub. Sixth period found them busy every day working for you and then, don’t forget the many evenings and Sundays that were poured into the Hub’s production. These people pounded the streets selling the ads to help with production cost, sold the subscriptions, and then put together the pictures and copy to give you a book of 1956-1957 memories. Remember every other Friday afternoon when you heard a rap on the door of your seventh hour class! That meant your Hi-Lite was on time again, filled full of school news and timely chatter written espe- cially for each of the students of M-W High by M-W High students. CLASS PROPHECY The year is 1977. The place McLean, Illinois. Twenty years have passed since I and twenty-six other seniors graduated from the local high school. It seems like yesterday! There we were, twenty-seven seniors, entering into the world not knowing what lay ahead, what we would be doing twenty years from now. McLean hasn’t changed too much, there are a few new buildings uptown, the population is rising because of the two new factories, and considering everything, McLean is starting to develop into a thriving community. The same basic building is still at the good old high school. However, there are a few ultra-modern buildings annexed to the old building, including a new gym. But still in the old halls lie our memories and our ambitions. And with this, still reigns the unforgettable name of Sec” Swearingen, who is still the janitor. He now has two assistants and his own office. I, Ron Prewitt, after my years on the Chicago Tribune as sports editor, decided I needed a va- cation so back to McLean I go. When I arrived at McLean, I went immediately to visit my old classmate and neighbor, the former Alene Reidel. She is now married and the mother of three fine children. She and her husband own a chain of Hot Rod Shops and they are part owner of the Ford Motor Comp any. We decided that since we hadn’t heard of our classmates for so long that we would find where each was living and what he was doing. Then we would print all this information and send it to each individual so that they could be in contact with their old classmates. We decided to leave the next week by plane. Meanwhile I had found all the addresses of the ’57 class. Our first visit was to New York where we met with Janey Alexander. Janey had realized her ambition of becoming a journalist and she now owned three of our nation’s largest papers. The only trouble she was having was she couldn’t find the right husband, she has been married four times already. While in New York, we stopped in at a.T.V. studio to watch Larry Finger, the idol of millions of women. He, like Liberace, is now the famous, musician of the keyboard. Co-starring on the program was Rock ’n’ Roll Don Hanes. It seems as though Don has become a second Elvis Presley, the idol of our high school days, and has been making a fortune. He has already sold twenty records which went over the million mark. Also while we were in New York, we went down to the Madison Square Garden, where we watched the Harlem Globe Trotters play. Don Watkins, after retiring from Pro basketball, had accepted the job as coach of the Trotters. We stopped at Harvard University where the former Marvalene Foley lives; it seems she married that coach after all. They now have twelve boys who are wonderful athletes. Ann Turner also resided here; and after becoming a superb lawyer, she accepted a job at Harvard teaching law. She is now the highest paid teacher in the world. PINE TREE HEREFORD FARM Atlanta PAUL VAN HOORN 2291 SONS We stopped next at Chicago where we chatted with Dorothy Hoose. Dot was now the owner of a large television station and was happily married. We wished her luck and continued to the big race- track on the outskirts of town. As the checkered flag went down, A1 Furman roared across the line. Another first for his long line of wins. A1 had set a new record at Indianapolis. He has won it five straight years so far. He was very glad to see us and we made a dinner date at Tom Long’s famous night club, the Gay Paree. Tom’s night club was famous world over. He was featuring a famous Dixie Land Band which was becoming the teenagers’ delight. The leader was Dick Lane, who played the hottest trumpet this side of heaven. It seemed as all of our classmates had become entertainers. With the five of us there, we had quite a reunion. We found out that Jerry Cisco had become a top artist and had replaced Walt Disney in Hollywood and that Kay McReynolds had become a top Interior decorator and was now living in Florida with her husband and three children. Dick also told us that while he was in New Orleans he ran into Bob Crab- tree who had struck it rich and was now a fabulous playboy. Dick said he had seen Bob riding down the street in a wonderful limousine with five beautiful girls. We then left Chicago after a few days and jour- neyed to Texas where we found Bill Beeler and Junior Van Hoorn. They had become partners and were the world’s largest Hereford raisers. They lived on a gigantic ranch with their families and they had become real cowboys. From here we traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada where we met Don Snow, one of the world’s best gamblers. Don owned several Casinos from his win- nings and was now living comfortably in his stacks of money. Also we found Nancy Leach and her hus- band vacationing in Las Vegas. Nancy and her husband owned one of the world’s largest shipping companies and were now planning to spend a few months in Europe. A person who took advantage of Nancy’s ship- ping company was Don Tate, who owned the largest chain of Grocery Stores in the world. Don ships out groceries by the thousands every day. He told us that he planned to retire soon. Vie flew from Las Vegas to Hollywood where we found Americas’s favorite actress, Carolyn Davis, the beauty queen from coast to coast. Carolyn was the most popular actress we have seen since Marilyn Monroe. While in Hollywood, we met Elberta Bohn and Dean Crver. They now owned the Standard Oil Com- pany ana were just returning from Hawaii, where they spent a few months vacationing. While on the plane. Dean and Elberta told us they met Dixie Coppen- barger who started as a stewardess but now owned the whole company and provided all of her class- mates with free transportation. We then flew back toward the East to Washington, D.C. where we met the famous orator and Senator from Illinois, Dick Ingold. He took us down to see Alice Turner, who had become the wife of the Pres- ident, and was now happily settled in the White House. Last but not least, we visited with Mickey Garr who was our lady ambassador to Spain. With all this information Alene and I published our little book and mailed it to our classmates.
