PEP RALLIES Cheerleaders, Songleaders, Band, and various members of the faculty joined their talents together to bring the spirit of the football season to the stu¬ dents of McLean. Classrooms were searched for hidden footballs and voices screamed out in pursuit of the Spirit Stick, but, their voices lost to the boys on the team and the pseudo-so¬ phistication of them, the juniors and Seniors failed to ever really join in. The Freshmen, always eager to try anything new, were constantly battl¬ ing it out with the Sophomores as even they, old hands at this business, were beaten more than once by the eagerness of the Frosh.

VARSITY FOOTBALL The Varsity football team, under new Head Coach Periello, fought its way to an event-filled 2-win, 6-loss, and 2- tie season. The wins came over Mount Vernon and Madison, with the ties on Oakton and Herndon. Throughout the season, the team was supported by the colorful band and drill team, the enthusiasm of the songleaders and cheerleaders, and the fairly large crowds. In spite of this and the talent of tri-captains Randy Russell, Brad Schwarz and Gary Nel¬ son, the team was never able to come up with the really crucial points. Coach Periello, assisted by coaches Reeves, Dinan, and Mandes, worked hard to develope depth in the team and build for next year ' s team, while trying to bring victory to McLean this year. With 24 seniors leaving the team, there is great hope that his fore¬ sight will pay off next season.
