PRACTICAL ARTS Mr. Dale Larson and Mr. Paul Pence HE The good smells and the unearthly grinding noises heard from the halls are evidence that the Practical Arts Department is hard at work. In the Home Economics section, girls and this year boys, are being taught basic skills in Managing a home and are getting experience outside the classroom with trips to a clothing factory and Woodward and Lothrop’s China, Glassware, and Silverware Department. The industrial arts section trains boys in the basics of woodworking, metal working and printing; | preparing them for future job opportunities in the craft trades. ede Dorion 21

A wide variety of physical education activities are taught at McLean, covering both team and individual sports. The team sports are taught to encourage physical skills, sportsmanship, and co-operation. The individual sports are stressed in order to provide’ students’ with recreational interest in later life. Besides contributing to the well-being of students through these programs, the Physical Education Depart- ment also offers courses in health, first aid, and driver education. SCIENCE This year the Science Department has added another another ‘‘alphabet’’ course to the curriculum—ESCP, the Earth Science Curriculumn Project. In addition, the department offers BSCS biology, CHEM study chemistry, CBA chemistry, and PSSC physics. Complementing these standard courses is Advanced Placement Chemistry, offered to selected senior students.
