Probably no department in McLean High School is more important to the students than the Guidance Department. From the moment a new student enters the school until he graduates, this department guides his academic and vocational pursuits. The primary function of the Guidance Department is to help the student realistically evaluate himself; this includes routine scheduling, progress evalua- tion, and individual direction in assisting him in accomplishing each day’s work. To facilitate these services, the county has established data proc- essing centers where report cards and other records are handled. McLean’s administration keeps quite busy with the multitude of problems which arise daily in the operation of a large cosmopolitan high school. These duties include not only re such things as transportation, student-faculty problems, preparation of reports, scheduling classes, curriculum, maintenance of the school plant, etc., but also relations with the a community, state, and nation as well.
