That farming family, Hagemann is my family. Frank, and Dieter ara my brothers, Ute, my sister. I arr son and brother in two families. Thi is a feeling which not enough people- in this world can experience. Witl more ties between more countries such as ours with Germany, througl me, strife would be an obsolete, ever a forgotten, term. The programs of student ex change fostered by the Americar Field Service are links between con temporary mankind and catholi peace in the near future. By partici pating in its programs, McLean Higl is securing a foothold in the land oy universal peace. My hope is thai continuing support of this progranl will build eternal peace in our lives that the scourge of war will neve again ravish life upon this earth. Walk together, talk together 'O ye peoples of the earth Then, and only then Can we have peace. -AFS Slogan Theo VeenKamp When I think of my life here, many pictures often flash through my mind, a few of Them are: New York at night, the first sight for me of America. It was like a dream, this wonder of greatness and light reflected in the dark water of the Hudson. The Budlongs, who are like parents to me, John, my brother, the long talk we often had together before we went to sleep. The classes with their conversations, discussions . . . and iokes. Parties, where we were listening to music, laughing, dancing and talking, talking about little things iust for the pleasure of it, speaking with each other about little things which seemed important at that ime and discussing really big things which were living in our minds, like life, world and religion. Two bits, four bits, six bits, a dollar, all for McLean, stand up and holler! And, boy, did we ever holler! Assemblies with other foreign exchange students in which we forgot that we came from different countries and became friends. People, persons, individuals, humans, boys, girls, men, women, and the more I met, spoke and watched, the more I understood that we are all the same. I46 The Student Cooperative Association is the axis upon which revolves the student activities and spirit of the school. Rather than being confined to only the organiz- ing of activities, this year's S. C. A. has had the role of coordinating the clubs of McLean under the Inter-Club Council. To make students more aware ot the activi- ties and purpose of the S. C. A. a day was designated as S. C. A. Purpose Day. Posters and announcements were made to illustrate these things. The Thistle Award was introduced to recognize those students excelling in scho- lastic achievement and participation in extracurricular activities. Charity drives took on a new form as the Seniors played the Juniors in bas- ketball for the benefit of the Crippled Children's Fund. The S. C. A. also spon- sored a Dime Dance to raise money for McLean's American Field Service Program. Both cooperation and students' partici- pation have helped the S. C.
