Ron Kanzler, Jim Matheson, mgr. ' ..- In this their first year of participation in sports, the B Highlanders fared well despite the odds that were against them. This is the iirst year for lNIcLane's being open and the boys have never played together before as a team. lXIost of the team's members were inexperienced and underclassmen, but all of them had the desire and the spirit to win. This was evident throughout the season although the Bees didn't win a game until the last two contests. They were victors over the B teams of Merced and Bullard, by scores of 21 to 13, and 33 to 7, respectively. The HB Highlanders, captained by quarterback Al Storm and halfback lVIike CillI'lt'l', ranked sixth on the North Yosem- ite League ladder of standings with a 2 win, 5 loss record. At a post Season awards banquet, Dong Cnrdcr was awarded for being the teanrs most inspirational player, and David Rini was honored by the Boosters Club as the most perscvcring HB player. McLane will long be remem- bered for its fine appearances, de- spite onesided scores from the Carnival to the Bullard game. The Highlanders proved that they have the material to be a top-notch team next year, and with the fine coaching and true Highland spirit the colors of the Red and White will find themselves the power- horse of the North Yosemite League, Here I am. JU IOR VAR ITY FOUTBALL McLane's junior varsity football team earned the honor of being the first team ever to win a game for this new school. Since this is McLane's first year of existence, the win should prove a memorable one. A Roosevelt B defender closes in on McLane's Mike Carter. with ball. 151 Though winning two games, this team suffered as many hard knocks as the other first year teams. JV Highlanders' wins came over the Bullard Knights' and the Nladera Coyotes' JV's. Losses were sufliered to the teams of Fresno. Roosevelt, and Clovis. Other NYL teams, Edison and Llerced. did not sponsor this form of team. The historical game for the Highlanders and student teacher-coach Bill Harbur. ended 13 to O, Madera the loser.
