Our Commencement is the beginning of adult life on an earth still seething with unrest and turmoil. The hostili- ties of war are over, the tiring has ceased, and the bombs no longer dropg but the pains of wounded men have not stopped, the cries of hungry chil- dren are with us yet, and there is still hate in men's hearts. To us, the youth, falls the arduous task of maintaining this shaky peace. Mankind has learned the sad lesson that keeping a peace is more difficult than waging a war. But we face this challenge with brave hope, with strengthened courage, with a fervent prayer that we shall be worthy of this universal peace which we can and must guard tirelessly forever. szegp r F mf x - mm ' ' . .,g, S M - :ff I v ff M WN- Q . l if .,.L - 5 , N X . pg H' ww, 2: I if 5 'EE5x KXL ff, rl I SL emf y 1 Qegicafeg 60 our joys Qylm gfave given Clzeir .gives 93 ggeace U2 fvafivuzf As Abraham Lincoln once dedicated a portion of a battlefield as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that this nation might live , so we, students in a high school in l946, dedicate our year- book to our fallen classmates. Through the halls of Tech and in the hearts of their high school companions the supreme sacrifice made by these will be a lasting memory, a treasured inspiration for all time. They died so that we might live-we must not, we shall not forget that. TEC!-l'S GOLD STAR BOYS Amos, Ioseph Aters, Walter E. Bagdasian, Hike Balderson, Marvin E. A Wonderful sense of humor and complete poise at all times dis- tinguish him. His interest in cadets may be traced back to his own high school days when he was himself a captain. Formerly a math teacher, he has directed life at McKinley for many successful years, As may be said about very few principals, Mr. Daniel is a true father to the faculty and students. Their unquestionable loyalty to him is ample proof of the high regard and affection which he inspires. 1 eepilzq fha I W ' EQCE Gt eau 0 0y5 Presenting Andrew M. Tech's baseball team enjoyed a mediocre season, but they displayed good teamwork. Some of the good points that did appear were the slugging of All-High centerfielder Mascarelli, and several good pitching exhibitions by Iones. The team was under the able instruction ot Mr. Walker. Department last year there were two new faces, that of Mr. Frank Nails Marino and Mr. Francis Winkie Hart. Together they coached the track team and did a bang-up job with the inexperienced material at hand by winning second place in the inter-high race. The nucleus of our team hinged on the return of two lettermen, Lann and Solomon. Al Lann broke the broad jump record in 43 , while Stan Solomon was the man voted best in track for the year. The remainder of the team also gave an excellent performance. Herb Tannenbaum ran the 8805 while Andy Davis took the l00 yard dash, 440, 440 relay, high jump, and broad jump. Bill Iackson, a newcomer, surprised all by running the mile in an inter- high meet and taking second place. Iimmy Iohnson, the Lt. Colonel of Tech's regiment, ran the 100 yard dash, 440, and the 440 relay. Bob Spears, the best in field events we had, transferred to Stanton Military Academy and Tech lost a good man. Our team, which everyone predicted to be last, nosed out Eastern by a point-and-a- half for second place, while Wilson won. With two such fine coaches at the helm.of our track team, we can expect a bright future. rugfxfirv Q A -as .. WM Lett to right, sitting: Manager S. Williams, B. Brooks, RE., H. Trittipoe, R.T., C. Tech's Little Redskins achieved a fine record with the tough sched- ule that confronted them, winning a majority of their games. There were many standouts in this year's squad. Probably the best known is Andy Davis, who attained the nickname of handy Andy . Davis's all around ability earned him a position on the All-High Squad. Following his great performance in the All-Star game, he Was chosen the outstanding high school player of the year. TWO other members of Tech's team were placed on the All-High Squad, Cecil Gray Cfullbackl and Clarence Drayer Ctacklel. Gray's slashing drives were nothing short oi sensational, and he's got two years yet. Ot course, he had a superb line making the path tDrayer, Trittipoe, and Co.l. The direction of the team both on the field and the bench was very good. This was done by Iohn Ferguson on the field, and Coach Dan Snyder from the sidelines. lf, fl ,r r Lq5 LIZ Left to right, sitting: A. Davis, L.H.B.g W. Poms, Q.B.g R. Fletcher, R.H.B., I. Two of the great games presented this year were the Eastern Game, which is probably still disputed over because of close play, and the Cen- ral game. As far as the records go Tech has lead a very successful season. Tech started off with a bang by defeating Mt. Vernon 62 to 6. lack George was the main star for the first part of the season. Andy Davis was outstanding all the time he was here and played a swell game until he graduated in February. Olson, Timmons, and Brotman were also out- standing during the whole season and were always in there fighting. The most exciting game that Tech played was against Wilson. It was tie several times, while one team would lead and then the other. Wilson Aim' Olson tapped in a rebound with 18 seconds to go. The final score 45-43 ech. During May and Iune they change from their gym suits to their bath- ing suits and learn to swim and dive. Earlier in the spring softball is the most pop- ular game. Here, Betty Loyd, Irene Bierly, and Anita Harkin are getting in training. ri In the spring the P. E. classes go in for tennis in a big way. Although it's more fun to play out- side in the courts, they have to settle for the gym until the weather is warmer. Basketball will always be a favorite among the girls. Teams are formed by the different gym classes and intra-mural games are played all during the winter months. Volley-ball is cz pretty exciting game if you keep that ball going. Harriet Donahue starts off the game with a good serve, while the other girls wait to help in the play. 6L5 iff? p 693. df H x g,i .5 ls I High brows on Tech Stage Our principal off duty Greenhouse views Dramatic Club in action Proof of Tech pulchritude Night life ci Y ,QR 1 55.51 u up X 23:12 1 'E 'W HHPPY PEOPLE BEPBESE-.'I1'I' H PEEIBEFUL IIHT 1011 12 now fake 6L fook fbe gg l'LL6Ll'y mio ry af X XXQN fi 1A4x 1 I ,ff wffrmwn fm flmllwz W uafrffw M S. 1 . ,EN N X .. , .zf I Q, f 2 Q, Q F! 2 f - Q w ww l1 a?11!1h3h!lM'lem!Wig rf 2 ff 5, A X 5 ,X wif wisp o QI QQ ALLEN, MARTHA LEE Muffy , Richmond, Virginia. Acting in front ot others teaches you to be more at ease in public speaking. This, certainly, is something every- one tinds valuable. New members are chosen to be different clerks, stenographers, secretaries, and switchboard operators. Those who show special application and interest are given added attention by Mrs. Turner, the adviser, for top positions. A number of members are working outside of school, doing much the same type of thing that they do on the Office Staff. O. president? Perhaps you have voted for a candidate, but do you know what you are voting for? G. O. means General Organization, and its task is to see that the student body functions well. The laws that you, as a student at Tech, are to follow are made by this organization. Upon its members the task falls of selling tickets for various activities around the school. In order that you may have a vote, a repre- sentative is chosen from every semester. l ORCHESTRA: Who's responsible for all the music at the assemblies here? It's the hard working orchestra. The reason the orches- tra functions so well is that all the students must have had previous orchestrial training before they can join. The orchestra meets the seventh period every day and each mem- ber gains one credit toward graduation. When Mr. Harbo raises his baton, we can expect music that we will all enjoy. f RWKZXX r x , 'n .
