In a year filled with martial spirit our cadets both boys and girls carried off honor after honor Our boys under the leadership of ARTHUR WIL LIAMS won lst place in the Reg1mentalDr1ll lst and 3rd places 1n the Battal1on Drill and lst place 1n Band Competition the G1rl Cadets refuslng to be outdone brought home lst place 1n their Competitive Drill GIRL RESERVE AND CADET sponsored dances continued to be popular in sprte of gasoline and rubber shortages and every dance had a spr1nkl1ng of Army Navy and Marine uniforms to prove that TECH is a school whose boys and girls fight and fight to w1n AND SO A little dazed by such overwhelming success and vow 1ng that next year would be better still we left our books behind and began our 2nd summer vacation from TECH 1943 1944 WHEN SEPTEMBER ARRIVED there were few among us who were not eager to return to school for this year we would be SENIORS We enloyed our new studles even refusing to allow the ghost of Burke to mar our good times Our football team after starting badly suddenly received some sort of 1nsp1rat1on and led by STAN FANT WHITEY EMSWELLER ERNIE BERTOLINI BOB PIKER and the rest won game after game to t1e for second place Even though we lost our chance for championship the season was a dec1ded success for we BEAT CENTRAL our ageless rival Upon that happy note we began a round of pre Chrlstmas activities PHAROS elected its new members ERIC RHODES president of the TECH debating society was made president of the George Wash ington Debate Conference December 'Ith arrived to mark America s second year of war our Christmas pageant was produced Wllh 1ts usual success and Christmas vacation arrived It was a vacation in name only for the high school students took Jobs essentlal to war crowded Washington and worked through the1r extended vacation RESUMING OUR STUDIES in earnest we were faced with a round of final exams and graduahon fun for the February seniors Leap year was 1n full sw1ng by this time so girls took advantage of t1me honored customs Basketball was popular and our team under HM KRANKING S J Q, fjgq l leadership made a very creditable showing being defeated fJ.ll . . .
