UCL? ,f 'zilzcifaa A kindly man with greying hair sits behind a mas- sive mahogany desk, and directs the destinies of the more than twenty-four hundred students who pass through Tech's halls daily. This man is Mr. Daniel, our beloved principal. Mr. Daniel is an old hand at the business of being principal for he has spent twenty-nine years of his life making Tech the fine school it is. Back in 1911 when he was first made principal, Tech was an entirely different school, It was a small school situated at Seventh and Rhode Island Avenue, with an enrollment of somewhere between seven and eight hundred students, Furthermore, it was exclu- sively a boys' technical school. Mr. Daniel worked toward the building of a new Tech and his dreams were finally fulfilled when the faculty and the stu- dents moved into this building in September l928. Mr. Daniel graduated from Central in l897, He was in the first class to which a technical course was offered. Tech grew out of this technical course at Central. While there he was very outstanding in cadet work, first being a captain and then capping the climax by gaining the coveted position of colonel. He attended Dickenson College in Carlisle, Pennsyl- vania, where he specialized in science and mathe- matics, and emerged wearing a Phi Beta Kappa Key. A year later he received his Master of Arts degree. He taught mathematics at Eastern, and mathematics and science at Tech, and finally became principal. Since becoming the principal at Tech, Mr. Daniel has led the school in its steady growth, He was re- sponsible for many of the new ideas that went into planning and building new Tech. He has carried the school forward through his fine powers of leader- ship. He has in every way and on every occasion held high the standards of the school and guarded her best interests, Tech has a debt of gratitude for this kind of leadership.
