A STURDY FOUNDATION Like shadows that stand behind to represent figures, we have fifteen departments which stand behind us during our course of study at Tech. They are presided over by the outstanding members of our faculty. The Athletic Department, which has gained much fame and honor for Tech, offers many varieties of sports, the most popular being football and track. Mathematics, an important high school subject, is taught in many phases from Algebra to Analytics, Mathematics being an essential subject for college entrance. The department which has the largest number of teachers is the English Department. English is required of everyone who wishes to graduate. The courses are divided into two: the College English course for those who wish to enter college, and the Practical English course for those who wish it only as a credit toward graduation. - For the students who enjoy reading, the History Department offers interesting courses of study, including World Problems, an advanced subject. The Science Departments of Chemistry, Physics, and Biology offer courses designed to stir the curiosity and lead to further investigation. The musical and artistic students can devote their time during high school improving their talents and enjoying themselves at the same time. For college-going students, Latin, Spanish, and French are taught. These subjects, cultural rather than practical, are a real addition to any student's education. The Commercial is the most rapidly growing department at Tech. There are never enough typewriters to meet the demand of students seeking admission to the typing classes. Instruction in all kinds of business machines is a part of the work of ad- vanced classes. On graduation Tech's students can secure work in various fields of the commercial world. The Practical Arts Departments are the most numerous at Tech, providing larger and more extensive courses in Home Economics for girls and Shop and other technical subjects for boys. It was because of these subjects that McKinley was given the name of Tech. E. I also
