TECH I 'II-IE IVI KING UR SCHOOL proves the old adage IVI1ghty oaks from I1ttIe acorns grow Tech IS really a very young school even though tts raprd progress and well orgamzed system would make lt seem as old as the Rock of Crbraltar Tech was a part of the old Central unt1I l90I when the necesslty for a separate manual tralmng school gave us the new mstltutlon The orrgmal bulldmg extended as far south as the Book Exchange and as far east as Room II2 In I908 the Hrst addltlon conslstmg of the assembly hall and the south starrway was completed In I909 the part beyond the south stairway was constructed The Rhode Island Avenue slde to MHTIOH Street was hnlshed IH I9II and the moId shop south of the school was completed ln I9l9 I-Iowever the present equipment does not provlde for a gymnasrum athletlc and cIr1II fields a Hrst class audrtorlum or sufhcrent class room space In I922 Mr Danlel appolnted a commlttee composed of faculty members wlth Mr IVIattern for rts chalrman It IS called the Greater Tech Commlttee and lts duty rs to strxve for better condl tlons for the school As a result a srte has been purchased at Second and T Streets Northeast and S2 250000 has been approprlated by Congress for bulldmg the new Tech was organized and has remarned prlmarlly a technlcal hrgh school although a very thorough and complete aCHdCmlC course may be obtamed Its shops are as varled and as well equlpped as any ln the country There are excellent courses offered ln Englrsh the languages mathematics hlstory clvrcs and economlcs The arts and sciences also afford splendld opportunlty for speclal work The ments of our school and 1ts courses are demonstrated by the hlgh rating of our students In advanced mstltutxons We play as well as work thereby carrying out the modern ldea of sport educa lon We are tramed ln executlve efhclency through our student government plan the only one of 1ts klnd rn our clty Our name has been made famous at home and abroad by our well tralned athletlc teams and cadet revfrments Nowhere IS there a better school orchestra than we have at Tech nor are we less proud of our social service orgamzatlon pubI1c1ty commlttee publrcatlon staffs and many worth whlle clubs all of whlch stme to uphold Tech s hrgh standards The secret of Tech s success IS lts wonderful Splflt vthlch IS recoffnlzed and admlred by all local hrgh schools Q0 long as thxs spmt prevarls vse w1II be msplred to hugh and noble achlevements May the Tech Spmt never be broken 7 Q school, which will be known as the McKinley Technical I-Iigh School. t. -,, . . . . ,
