'Nt 7 rincqaafzi Weddage Dear friends of the Classes oi Ianuary and Iune, 1952: Are you really interested in what older folks say to you? Whose opinions do you value most? lust how much attention do you pay to suqqestions and advice from parents and teach- ers? Iust what does McKinley High School actually mean to you? Such questions as these come to mind as I try to conform to the tradition that each year book should contain a letter from the principal. So, whatever it may be worth, here is my sincere wish for you all: may those who know you best feel that McKinley Hiqh School has helped make you a qood person who can think for himself. Sincerely yours, N. B. DEE, Principal. t l UMC? 2l 50I'lI'l2 To help estalish and maintain, through kind- ness and firmness, conditions which will make for efficiency of teachers, satisfaction of par- ents, and success and happiness of McKinley students--this has been and will continue to be my aim. WILLIAM T. WELD. Assistant Principal. '17 '?7f..Ul l HARRY G. HARTMANN WILLIAM T. WELD Assistant Principal Books, books, books! Mr. Hartmann, our bookman, handles more books in one year than many of us will handle in a life-time. ln addition, there is the problem of keeping enough supplies in stock for our school popu- lation. Bus passes is another item on his list. We might even say that he is our banker, be- cause all the money from every club and or- ganization must go through his hand. Omce errionne Miss Connor meets all the new pupils who enter McKinley, and her greatest joy is ful- filled when they complete the four years set before them. Whenever any one does not seem to fit in with his program, she is always anxious to make any adjustment that will be of the greatest benefit to the pupil. We are very fortunate in having such a fine person to guide us in our early years. E' I fl. X .11 LUCILLE BECKER, REGINA KOHRING, WINIFRED MEYER MISS KOI-IRING Are any of you girls planning to enter the service? Here is a young lady that can ad- vise you welI. Miss Kohring was a nurse in the 21st General Hospital during World War II. She saw service in North Africa and Italy. SARAH A. CONNOR Assistant Principal MISS BECKER There is charm in this lady. To have talked with her is to have lived a little richer. Miss Becker knows more than anyone else about the records of our school. She is very effici- ent, humorous, and full of fun. MISS MEYER ' Not a more cheerful person can be found. Distinguished looking, kindness, and thought- fulness are characteristic traits of Miss Meyer. Do you remember when she injured her foot last winter? Yet she dared come to school every day to keep details moving as always. ji. mJc..L, 44,4 5zi..,f 51. Norman Bliss Dee, Principal Sarah A. Earn while you learn is the motto of McKinley's participants in the new program of Distributive Education. This new program is sponsored by Mr, Layne. lt enables students to receive business training preparatory to store operation or management, gain selling techniques, and obtain mer- chandising information which will be helpful if they plan to enter business or attend college. A student may enter the Distributive Education program in his seventh term, and may continue through his eighth term. He will receive one credit for the class work and one credit for successful partxtime experience. l-le must attend school the first four periods of each school day and then be available for on-the-job experience in the afternoon or week-end. The program allows four semester credits to be earned. The minimum number of work hours per week is fifteen. The student must be sixteen in accordance with the labor law and receives the same wages as other new employees in the same work. The merchant selects the students that he employs. The teacher co-ordinator works with the merchants in setting up a training schedule for each student in an effort to individualize instruction so that the knowledge learned in school is directly related to the part-time iob. We sincerely wish continued success to Mr. Layne and the students pare ticipating in this new type of education. There is no doubt that this is a good way to receive knowledge, earn money, and lay a foundation for success in some vocation. 7 46 ,W , c u , x f 4 -+- , , , .J llffljff J 51-frtll 4 ,iid , lQ4fyCl'1 2-17 5 51 'l A C 'W .K I Li lb4,LJ' 1' u .. . .1 in f ,C '24 fY'l,fL,,4',j' M: ff Lf' unior .xgckieuemenf lunior Ac:hiczvcnncint is ci non-profit orqonizotion in which boys crnd qirls lecirn obout the economic :systcfin ol the United States, The members own cind scwll stock for their cornponies. This year the students have chosen a dark, beauti- ful and very darling girl as their Queen. She is Chris Ndina, who has the graciousness of the four queens to reign before her. The night of Coronation seems to break the spell of mystery which has fallen over McKinley and brings on a feeling of enchantment. As we sat in the aud that night, we heard the music of the McKinley Band. The ten girls entered, one by one, each as beautiful as the previous one. Their handsome football hero escorts brought on an air of distinction. Each couple reached the stage and all the girls bowed gracefully before the retiring Queen, Victoria. A hush fell over the group, as Queen Vicki bent down to the small flower girl and the name of the new queen was revealed. Chris knelt down before Vicki and received her crown of roses. She then sat on the royal throne and was serenaded by one of McKinley's talented singers. A Coronation Ball followed, and we all had a grand time. .. 9.-gt 'Ag ,. Track is an individualist sport. Unlike other sports, the boy must win for himself. There is no one to pass the ball to him or block out for him. When the gun goes off, there are no time outs. It's up to you alone to win or lose the race. There is no greater thrill than breaking the tape first to win the race or even to beat just one person in the race. The fact that you did it yourself without a teammates help is what makes track such a thrill. Track, like other sports. needs support from the students at school. Like the football player, the trackman can run better when he knows his school- mates are cheering for him. -Kenneth Swehla. f7Ae 1951 flag lam .W 5 7 Y- 1 Coacked y Y-1 Left to right: Gene Greening, lack Lippincott, Iulius Blanke, Lawrence Buschmann, M. No matter what kind of sport, he is always in there trying to sell tickets for all the events. His track team this year we believe will be better than ever. He is working real hard to get the boys into shape for the coming Track season. MB. LIPPINCOTT A tennis expert and magician, that he is. Also a person Whom everyone likes. Mr. Lippincott has a hard time trying to get a good team. Know the reason why? Nol Well, it's because only a handful of boys come to try out. He does not have enough boys. He has to double up two or three times in order to get in a full game. These boys who try to carry on when they have played two or three games have learned to do this from the encouragement of their coach, Mr. Lippincott. MR. BLANKE He coaches our Varsity Football Team and Baseball Team. Also, he coaches our Freshman Basketball Team. ln football he is THE master, for our team has kept on improvingg and next yearewell, there will be fireworks. ln baseball he also does a very fine job. He is busy all year around with his activities. He is well liked by all. MB. BUSCHMANN His main job is coaching our wonderful Basket- ball Team. He has done wonders with the boys in good sportsmanship, better ability to play and good spirit in playing in a game. His mottc might be, Never stop trying, no matter how fai behind. MR.
