IN MEMORY OF MARGARET A. HEREEN Deceased May 9, 1936 The St. Louis Public Schools suffered an irreparable loss in the death of Margaret A. Hereen. During a life devoted to teaching in our schools, Miss Hereen not only established an admirable professional record, but Won the respect and love of the teachers with whom she associated and of the students whose Work she directed. Her life and work constitute her epitaph: An excellent teacher, a Wise counselor, and a loyal friend. Miss Hereen received her entire education in St. Louis schools. After completing her elementary education in Charless and Peabody schools, she entered Central High School. Upon graduation from high school, she enrolled at the St. Louis Normal School to prepare herself for the teaching profession. She later received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the Harris Teachers College. Subsequently, she did graduate Work at the St. Louis University. Her thirty-five years of teaching were spent at the Garfield Elementary School and at the McKinley High School. In addition to her versatility in art, music, and academic Work, Miss Hereen was a genuine educator. Not only did she present her subject matter effectively, interestingly, and intelligently, but she kept the human aspect of teaching ever in sight. She taught by precept and by example, inspiring her students with the Christian ideals of industry, sincerity, honesty, charity, cheerfulness, sacrifice, and virtuous living. As a skillful teacher and as an exemplary character, Miss Hereen will ever live in the minds and hearts of the McKinley High School faculty and student body. Page Seven
