WhaT puzzling days Those were Tor some oT us, geTTing losT in The halls, looking Tor The elevaTor and whaT noT. This was mainly a year of adiusTmenT and inTroducTion To The various clubs and acTivi- Ties oT The school. Some oT The old O. 8: B.'s record a Tew oT The more sTudious among us on The l-lonor Roll, among whom were l-lelen Campbell, Emil l-lerich, Bessie Demerouka, Jordanka AnTonoTF, Colleen Kelly, and VicTor Odierno. In Those good old days when we had a TooTball Team Max Figler and Lowell Davis could be seen Tossing The pigskin around. Who would have guessed ThaT in a Tew shorT years boTh would be in The U. S. Marines geTTing Their share oT acTion aT Guadalcanal and oTher Tar places. By The end of June, T940 mosT oT Europe was aT war. And ThaT marked The end oT our Freshman year. CHAPTER ll-SepT. l940 - June I94I. GeTTing up in The world, we were now Sophomoresl Yes, wo were growing up and could now laugh aT Those silly li++le Freshies. A greaT many oT us sTarTed opening our eyes, noTicing The many opporTuniTies all around us, boTh scholasTic and in The Tield oT service. The Girl Re- serves had a Sophomore as presidenT in The person of Leona Adams. Several Sophomore boys sTarTed The McKinley l-li-Y. And aT The end oT The year Bessie Gouzeas was elecTed hike leader and Elaine Barber SecreTary-Treasurer of The G. A.A. Dick FairTield, Tony Grande and oThers puT on spikes and Turned ouT Tor Spring baseball TryouTs, Carmen STompanoTo and William Froe- lich were making a name Tor Themselves over aT Cregier by Taking parT in Their acTiviTies. Mr. Willinganz came To McKinley ThaT year and RoberT Baggs, Essie Pyle, Judy Velazquez, Carrol Green, Ed BroadhursT and oThers were preparing To serve under him in The band and orchesTra. AnoTher newcomer To McKinley was Miss Quinn, our presenT principal. Many oT The Sophomore boys were becoming inTeresTed in sporTs and Division 308 Took The Junior Cage Crown.
