CHAPTER Ill-SepT. I94I -June I942. Umph, Umph, now we were upper classmenl WhaT an evenTTul year ThaT was! Our new coach, Mr. Novak, was busy during The auTumn season breaking in a varsiTy soccer Team. OuT- sTanding among The booTers were Jodie Green, Bernard Welch, Phil Cornacchio, and Dick Fair- Tield. When The baskeTball season Took The spoTlighT several oT our classmaTes advanced Towards The TirsT sTring. Came Spring, and wiTh iT baseball. McKinley puT a Team on The diamond aTTer a 27-year lull. Phil Cornacchio and Ward Fisher were chosen as managers. OuTside The sporTs world There was greaT acTiviTy in club circles. Josephine Camille was salTing away money Tor us as head oT The bank. Leona Adams was elecTed presidenT OT The STudenT council. Ward Fisher was vice-presidenT, Sam lvluscarello, SgT. aT Arms, and Colleen Kelly, recording secreTary. Remember how The S.G. A. worked ThaT semesTer? IT puT on The skaTing parTies and cake drives, and whaT a laugh we had Trom iTs Free AcTiviTy wiTh a mock invasion oT McKinley by Nazi para- Troopers. More oT our class members Took over imporTanT oT'Fices when Bessie Gouzeas became presidenT oT The G. A. A., DoroThy Kalopeses, vice-presidenT, Mercedes Folkers, hike leader, and Takouye Eshkonian. assisTanT hike leader. Many OT The girls earned Their major lvl. and sTarTed work Towards Their chevrons. A new sTaTT Took over The O. 81 B., among whom were Leonore PeTTenon, Leona Nomellini, Leona Adams, and Ward Fisher. By This Time, life was Tairly whiz- zing along and Then, Booml The Japs bombed Pearl Harbor. Ever since ThaT December 7 we've been working harder Than ever. Our class has done much To beTTer The school's war eTTorT and we pledge To keep This up aTTer graduaTion. Things became more serious and wiTh The summer vacaTion many oT us Took iobs in war planTs. CHAPTER IV-SepT. l942 - June I943. Finally, a Senior! We sTarTed This lasT year Tull oT energy and have accomplished much To round ouT our high school careers. Richard FairTield was made Fire ChieT and on The squad were Dan Jenero, ChrisT Demos, Louis Chechapolous, and Carmen STompanoTo. As capTain oT The hall guards, Tony Grande has had able assisTanTs in Russel NicalleTTi and Tom McCollum. Heading The O. 84 B. sTaTi was Leanore PeTTenon and filling her previous iob as News EdiTor was DoroThy Krueger. ln The sporTs world Benny Di Francisco held The limelighT as one OT The ciTy's highesT baskeTball scorers. Dan Jenero, Tony Grande and a Tew oTher players kepT The Junior and Senior Teams 'acTive. LaTe in The semesTer a sTrong B. A.A. under The presidency OT Phil Cornacchio sTarTed an acTive program oT inTra-mural aThleTics. IT Tinally looked as Though we had a permanenT coach when anoTher man named Novak came To McKinley. Our Senior elecTions were held early in The semesTer. Ward Fisher was elecTed presidenT, Leona Adams, vice-presidenT, Elaine Barber, secreTary, and Dick FairTield, SgT. aT Arms.
