l l MRS MARY MILES MR. JOSEPH SKORPEN MRS. GENEVIEVE YATES MRS. LUCY FARDEN MRS. EMILY ELSEY Vice Principal Treasurer Registrar Visiting Teacher Health Director McKinley Curriculum 0 During the past six years the cur- riculum at McKinley has undergone some very marked changes. Core Studies, a compulsory revised program of English and Social Science, is the heart of this curriculum. It has re- placed the traditional courses in Eng- lish and history. The memorization- recitation process is no longer stressed. Instead, emphasis is placed on prob- lem solving. Special consideration is given to the study of current social, economic and political problems which help the students to face their own problems more intelligently. Oral and written English is also stressed. ' Students are no longer required to enroll in college preparatory courses. Instead, they may choose from such electives as commercial subjects, home making, agriculture, handcratt, and music. 0 Through Core Studies, McKinley has become a cooperative community where students and teachers work to- gether and conduct the business at- fairs of the school government, 0 Rather than encourage competi- tion tor honors in scholarship, student individuality is prized. Students are urged to analyze their own abilities, shortcomings, and possible opportuni- ties tor self-improvement and develop- ment. ln this manner teachers have aided students in making adjustments, Looking for my program?
