True, there were times when we have complained. Too much homework, too many tests-no time to loaf! But then the time came when we discovered you weren't the strictly business type after all. We found out you, too, have feelings and a sense of humor. And now, can we sum up all our appreciation with a mere Thank you ? Is it enough to say for all that you taught us, all that you gave us as well as the students before us? Maybe not, but remember that those two words hold much meaning. You have left our school but will not leave our memory. All of us who have known you will not forget you. We wish you much happiness in years to come. -Bonnie Feltz '77 Ax 4 11 ' u s 1 f 1 1 1 I I 1 I im 5, ,I gg , f ' 1 23,22 ' i ,.-,. ,Zn 2 ' 'A ' eat f ' W, 4 W4 if MZ? fy Z I M, ff- , f , 1' ff f, mHs,ffW,f,4A,ff ,I ,, ,, 1 :IMS E 2 l'l Y X 1 X wp I I My f 120 W i, ,Sgr yr Sb Gai! Wm .,.,l W..m.n,....,. ,,.Ju.,.......w,,.,.,..,-V..l........1..,..WMw - fm-.- The 1976 Tiger Cross Country Season encom- passed every emotion in the spectrum, rang- ing from the ecstasy of victory to the dull realization of defeat. The team proved itself from the start, winning the first four meets handily. The only loss came on a stiflingly hot day at Schenley Park where the Tigers faced powerful Central Catholic without ace Bob Landstrom. The resiliency of the team en- abled us to bounce back though, and as a result we won our final five meets, the season climaxing in a freezing downpour at Renzie- hausen Park. The Tigers were again minus their top runner, bringing back bitter mem- ories of that lone loss. But there appeared the promise of a bright future as five Tiger runners splashed across the finish line, shut- ting out South Hills Catholic. This win helped mark the second best record in Tiger Cross Country history: ten wins and only one loss, giving Coach Andrews his second winning season in two years as coach. There were many moments of glory and some great individual efforts, such as Bob Land- strom competing in the WPIAL Championship Meet. None of these accomplishments had come easily, though. There were quite a few moments when it seemed as if all of those long hours sweating in the hazy autumn sun would be for naught. But that golden thread of unity would shine through, adding a spark when it was most needed, and we would hide our doubts and press on. This season will al- ways remain in our memories, for we not only gained a winning record and the thrill of athletic competition, but above all, we gained each other. 132 -Coach Andrews if QP? , . We lost the playoff game with Duquesne 2-O for the right to enter the WPIAL Tournament. Our 18-5 record last year was due mainly to our fine pitching staff spearheaded by four senior pitchers: Skip Hetrick 6 wins Bernie Spiewak 8 wins George Ursta 1 win Mark Eckels 2 wins Our team ERA was 0.95, which means that our pitching staff gave up less than one earned run per nine innings. -Coach Witt ,K 152 I wk ,W s nur .41 I ,. -,W , vs., r- ,f - .W . Drill sessions that last for hours on practice fields and endless rehearsals of the music Qat least it seems endlessj are the order of life for this period. Yet the work and sweat do pay off for us-even though it is for 12 to 13 minutes for nine Saturdays out of the year, performing before the people. For the McKeesport Sr. High School Tiger Marching Band, this is the end of the three week band camp training session. The first two weeks we spent on either learning or reviewing basic marching techniques, and preparing the music for shows and parades. The third week is when it gets into full swing putting it all together on the fields at Slippery Rock State College in mid-August. Under the direction of Lawrence L. Gibson, and music coordinator Ron- ald J. Polak, and under the field command of drum majors Tom Butler and Shawn Davis, the march started with the opening performance at the Kennywood Park Fall Festival Parade and kept right on going through the football season, fclimaxed by this year's Homecoming Showj and the Bicentennial and Christmas parades in downtown McKeesport. Several member volunteers in the band also participated in the McKees- port Halloween Parade joining, in costume, the other celebrants in a march down Fifth Avenue, and having a great time looking silly. Memories of the football season past were regenerated with a fund raiser known as the Stadium Review held in the South Hall Auditorium. Those attending were entertained by a performance of all this year's halftime music, and the drills of the Color Guard and Majorettes. The audience then sat down to a chicken dinner prepared in the cafeteria. Every band has its problems-ask any band director. It is no secret that we have had more than our share. Yet during the difficulty of the first days of the school year a small group within our organization added to their responsibilities and helped to hold the band together during the period. They organized communication lines, and kept a rehearsal sched- ule going, and really showed their belief in the band program. So let the work of the drum majors and this year's band officers be noted here in the yearbook. It was not in vain. It's striving to reach the full potential of the group, always smiling and caring enough to keep your weight down and your kicks up. It's putting up with sub-zero temperatures in skimpy uniforms, and praying that each time you toss your baton it will fall back into your hands. The thrill of representing McKeesport on the field, or in competition will always be a highlight of high school days. But, most of all it's our own special way of showing dedication to our school. -Monica Trombola '77 -Kathy Lewis '77 5 3 W COLOR GUARD Kneeling: Sue Wetzler, Vida Shega, Beth Pat- terson, Marianne Messina, lCaptainJ Pam Bartko, Jean Mangus, Debbie Lechtanski, Debbie Getty, Debbie Boczar Standing: Brid- gette Bartels, Jill Fawcett, Kathy Belusar, Anita Wood, Ginny Kemp, Carole Pitchford, Jeanne Murtisch, Cindy Mclntosh, Kathy Lechtanski, Julie Guarscio, Debbie Heyz, Debbie Flohr, Alicia Rivera, Cheryl Marcus, Sue Kirshner 0- ' :v, fwf1l ft.,w-mm-- W CHEERLEADERS FOOTBALL AND WRESTLING Left To Right: Tina Antonella A Beth Gilmore Lynne Wampler Debbie Thompso Penny Ukasik Honi Mendlowitz WAR K VXA fwx ins g 5 C pi W- ,. , Q, -3. - M. ,QM S W, lxzx, w . 2-I CHEERLEADERS VARSITY BASKETBALL Front: Chris Miller, Pam Bart- ko, Chris Gibala, Back: Anita Wood, Wendy Weinstein, Cindy Mols, Vida Shega. We knew that it stood for the American Field Service International Scholarships. We thought it would be fascinating to ex- perience exciting people from faraway lands in our own school. Our high school principal endorsed the idea, and our teachers committed themselves to make our dream a reality. A family from Versailles Borough wanted to share their lives with the life of an A.F.S. scholar. Students throughout the school com- munity spread the word, sold candy, had parties and just helped us make our first year a successful project. But some of us were wrong. We thought A.F.S. was for him, or her a chance to be here, learn here, and grow here. And of course it is, or was, and will be, but A.F.S. means much more to many more. A.F.S. allowed us to give to someone who gave to us. We do not know who gave the most or gained the most. Nor do we care. We know the sharings of Mario and our- selves helped us to become better people. We learned, a year from those small beginnings, that A.F.S. is for us, all of us, all the time. 1St ROW: Linda Urkevich, Mario DeIPuerto, Amy Osterman 2nd ROW: Michelle Balough Cheryl Weimer, Mary Kay Romanchak, Maureen McKay 3rd ROW: Greg Casciato, Melinda Morsini, Laurie Kost, Dawn Taimuty ' SOUTH HALL DFFICE AIDES ga 7,431 we f- if 1st Row: Sue Stinson, Janice Coban, Phyllis Conley, Honi Mendlowitz, Laura Louden, Barb Himich, Jean Maldonado, Robin Hudson, Diane Rolnik 2nd Row: Leayn Danielson, Francie Datig, Patty McDaniel,Cathy Nola, Mary Kay Resnik, Sue Bodnar, Tessie Sowa, Anna Salih, Myra Payne 3rd Row: Mary Roberts, Linda Bishop, Patty Murin, Linda Walker, Carol Straw, Nada Shumkaroff, Ginny Kemp, Naida Patterson, Amy Oster- man, Desiree Jefferson, Sharon Kundman, Roberta Wesley 4th Row: Chris Knoll, Sue Wetzler, Kathy Filotei, Penny Ukasik, Chris Miller, Lorraine Nelson, Brenda Richardson, Tamara Kianese, Carolyn Korinko, Petrina Kaminski ORTH HALL OFFICE AIDES J , Seated: Brenda Dudley Mrs. Miller 1st Row: Tonya Walker Gail Coddington Sheri Gambrill Jill Fawcett Valery Stramiello Diane Fleming NURSES AIDES 1st Row: Janet Donnelly Sally Joyce Cindy Hart Monica Brownfield 2nd Row: Atna Carper Scott Mullen Nancy Hallas Karen Traegar George Petras Carla Ripley Judy Case ,fs If 3, E 1St Row: Mary Barton Darlene Durham Sue Williams Lisa Herrup Kim Williams 2nd Row: Lisa Roka Bonnie Feltz Joy Epps Pam Anderson Gloria Nelson 188 X ,gs SKI CLUB ALONE IN THE SUN Catching the flow quickly, high on the slope, feeling the movement in the first turn, weight churning, slinking, snaking, settling into a rhythm, no one below or above, a slope to myself and the glistening sun, no noise, silent snow rippling, the body floating, moving fast, sun-sparkled tears blurring into the powder, blue flashing with white.
