4 AKA, J.. Left fielder Len Conley prepares to bunt the pitcher's delivery. A speedy Tiger hitter runs out an infield grounder. BASEBALL COACH ALBERT T. FALLQUIST'S 1962 Baseball Team came within three runs of winning the WPIAL championship. The team compiled an impressive season record of 13 to 3, winning two exhibition games, 8 of 10 section contests, and three WPIAL playoff matches be- fore losing the finals at Forbes Field, 4-1, to Ellwood City. In Section 14 play, MSHS won twice from Clairton, Duquesne, and West Mifflin South, and split with Munhall and West Mifflin North. The team challced up five shut-outs during the season and tallied 71 runs to their opponents' 36. The pitching chores were hand- led by Ed Stanlco, Al Sabo, and Garey Christian. Seniors on the team were Leonard Conley, Al Sabol, Bill Schaeffer, Gerald Smith, Ed Stanlco, and Miles Stepanovich. Second baseman Bob Urbaniak lunges into a fast curve

TRACK and FIELD HE 1962 TRACK AND FIELD team eked out a single victory as they faced eight schools in six away-from-home meets. Coaches for the thin-clads were Charles E. Schaeffer and Noel A. Guyot. One new school record was set when junior Rodd Wilkinson heaved the shot 49' 7 . Tigers attending the April 28 WPIAL Relays at Penn Hills did not finish among the winners. At the ten-team Independent District meet at Mt. Lebanon, May ll, they tied for last place, qualifying at this meet for participation in the finals were Wilkinson fshotl, Squibb lshotl, Dizniak fmilel, and Vidnovic fhigh hurdlesl. McKeesport's best invitational showing was at Uniontown, May 15, placing third among nine schools and winning first and second in the shot put, second in discus, and third in medley relay. New this year was the Varsity Cross Country Track Team, coached by Morrell Dodds, which enjoyed a successful opening season by winning three of four dual meets and participating in the WPIAL finals.
