BOX 535 DARIEN; GEORGIA 31305 NOWHERE BUT MCA!! £ As in every school, MCA has its own peculiarities, but it seems as if MCA has a few more than any other place. We, the Buccaneer Staff, have attempted to recall this year’s events and happenings as accurately as possible. We hope the 83 Buccaneer will enable you to recall this portion of your high school years . . . NOWHERE BUT MCA!! 3 WE STUDIED Of course, school is for studying. Well, at M.C.A. we try to avoid studying. We do this through joining every club in school and having doctors' appointments frequently. These students were caught at something they rarely do. studying. A 5 As in every school there is a little romancing. The voca- tional wings or MCA are known as “Romance Row. Just make sure if you're getting some sugar, you don't get caught because you're slammer bound if you are. 6 Sleeping is one of the most popular student activities in school. No where but MCA would you find the WHOLE CLASS asleep. What’s that on the floor in the library? 7 8 The cafeteria in our school is a frequent topic of conversation. Quotes over- heard during lunch were Hey. what's that in the peas?”, Is your jello crawling?”, and What's that doing the backstroke in your soup? But nowhere but MCA would some of the faculty just love that home Southern cooking. And what is that in Mr.Brown's hand? 9 Playing at M.C.A. comes in many varieties. One of the most common varieties is playing in class. Other varieties include playing in the halls, playing with the little children, playing with the faculty, and playing with each other. 11 WE DID IT ALL!! We tried to do everything at MCA - cheat, play, sleep, love.skip class, and even perhaps study a little. Through it all. we will always remember there is nowhere like MCA. 12 1983 BUCCANEER DEDICATION MR. C.N. CROFT This year's Annual has been dedicated to Mr. Croft who has always made himself available to the students of MCA. He has been the counselor for five years and is a I ways there to lend a helping hand when he is needed. His patience and understanding have been appreciated by all of the students at MCA. The BUCCANEER Staff proudly dedicates this year's BUCCANEER to Mr. C.N. Croft. 13 o 14 «, t •£. . Everything from broken arms. legs, feet and fingers were on this list. Although these casualties were minor, the mere thought of how they occurred one right after another ga vc everyone the chills. Because M.C.A. ga ve the doctors' offices such good business, our school’s walkway read “Enter at Your Own Risk. ” 71 WHA T WERE YOU CAUGHT DOING? Were you ever caught at school doing something you shouldn ’t be doing? In the bathroom smoking? In the hall talking to someone you would not be caught dead with? At your locker with something illegal? With your head on the wrong boy's shoulder? 73 IN MEMORY. . . MARTY HOLMES 1965-1982 CHUCK WA TERS- 1983 STAR STUDENT MCA ’sSTAR student for 1982-83 is Chuck Waters. SA T scores and his scholastic average. MCA has a wide variety of teachers who you might see doing most anything. Some crave chocolate, some like to play with the xerox machine (which is a definite no-no), some crave things we can't mention, and some love to eat! You decide whodoes what and with whom, and who does it nowhere but MCA! Nowhere but MCA would Christmas bring a Santa-“Croft”. Santa- Croft . alias Mr. C.N. Croft, came to MCA on Thursday. December 16. 1982. He delivered presents to all the children in the Child Care Class. Student Council sponsored a door decorating contest, and the homeroom winners were: Mr. Bruley - 1st place, The Slammer - 2nd place. Mrs. Heck - 3rd place, and a special award went to the wall decoration of Child Care. Health Occupations, and The Art Club. 79 ENTHUSIASM 80 THRIVES AT MCA! The people I have worked with made being the editor of the Buccaneer an enjoyable and exciting experience. Without Ms. Nikki Crooms there would be no Buccaneer. To Ms. Crooms I say. Thank you for being so patient and understanding and putting up with the staff. The 1983 Buccaneer staff deserves a pat on the back for producing an outstanding yearbook. My special thanks go out to Kelly and Timmy for always being there to do whatever needed to be done: to Eric, the photographer, it was not easy for you always, but without you. we would not have been able to get the very best pictures possible; to Chuck add Doodle for taking the time to develop the pictures and reprinting them when we were not able to find the right pictures: to Vanessa for devoting her time into typing the necessary copy: and last, but not least. Janice and Angie for putting up with the classes and faculty section. Even though it has been a long hard experience I will miss thestalfandall the other people I have worked with in making this annual a success. (XjjitUjjyVfUL) The 1982-83 Buccaneer StatTis one to be proud. They ha vc worked veryr hard to produce the best annual, yet I appreciate the cooperation and support of the stall'. I also appreciate the contributions made to the annual by Debra Sprouse. Patti Tolbert. Jean Bohn. Kathleen Williamson and our representative Mr. Baker. Those students, teachers, and administrative stair who supported and cooperated with the annual stall Thank you. too. I hope this annual appeals to everyone. My last thought is about our advisor. I Jnder the guidance of Coach Brooks, the girls played an extremely tough defense especially in the region tournament in Claxton. This fact, coupled with MCA's moving up into region 2AA. produced a losing season for our Buccaneers. Head coach Ray Meadows stated. This year was a stepping stone fora sound football program at MCA. Our players gained valuable experience, and with the type of athletes wc have at MCA. we should have a winning program in the near future. COACHES: I. Cleveland Butler 2. Joe Roberson 3. Isaiah West IX Antonio Blackshear 14. Galen Hulett 15. Micheaf Palmer 1982-83 was a good year for the Bucs as they finished with a solid 16-7 record. The year began on a sour note when, in only the second game of the season. Brunswick High defeated MCA by the embarrassing score of 87-48. But. later in the season when the Pirates came to Darien, they were turned even way but loose, as the fired up Buccaneers upset them 86-69. M( A also defeated 4-AAAA opponent Glynn Academy twice this season, the second time being in the consolation game of the Christmas tournament where the Bucs took third place honors. Another highlight was a thrilling 62-61 victory over arch-rival Richmond Hill. The season was capped of!'by a crushing victory 86-58 over I min County in the first round of the sub-region tournament. The following night MCA won their first sub-region title in seven years with a 77-66 win over Pierse ( ountv. The season came to an about halt when, after a wry determined effort, the Bucs fell victim to a tall Viadalia squad 57-50. Coach 's comments . . . Any time we can beat Brunswick High. Richmond Hill and Glynn Academy it has to be considered a good year for us. These are teams we traditionally have a very hard time foaling, but this year rose to the occasion. It will be extremely hard to replace this y ear's group of seniors. I though they had a year to be proud of and represented the school in a respectable manner. They are a group will miss very much and remember with humor and pride. 112 113 114 BUCCANEERS MCA OPPONENT 51 Richmond Hill 60 48 Brunswick High 87 80 Brantley County 73 83 Long County 76 71 Bacon County 59 74 Irwin County 68 53 Charlon County 60 76 Pierce County 51 97 Irwin County 88 62 Richmond Hill 61 85 Savannah Country Day 49 94 Glynn Academy 70 72 Long County 73 84 Brantley County 41 88 Savannah Country' Day 58 86 Brunswick High 69 54 Charlton County 68 63 Pierce County 53 50 Glynn Academy 62 77 Bacon County 67 86 Irwin County 58 77 Pierce County 66 50 Vidalia 57 LADY BUCS 51 Richmond Hill 47 Brunswick High 54 Brantley County 67 Long County 49 Bacon County 57 Irwin County 70 Richmond Hill 65 Glynn Academy 36 Charlton County 48 Pierce County 39 Irwin County 39 Richmond Hill 34 Savannah Country Day 44 Glynn Academy 50 Long County 24 Savannah Country Day 51 Brunswick High 47 Charlton County 61 Pierce County 56 Glynn Academy 44 Bacon County 60 Pierce County 48 Charlton County 115 LADY BUCCANEERS I. This year's schedule includes three home matches and ft ve away matches as compared to I982's five-match schedule. The team will also compete in a sub-region tournament during the latter part of April in Alma. Georgia. Coach Brooks is very pleased with this year’s turnout. Cm pleased with the number of younger players that are on the team. Ifthey stick around. MCA should have a Region Tennis trophy in the showcase in the next four years. We will be competitive this season, but I’m sure we'll lake our share of the lumps along the way. PEP RALLIES TRIED BUT FAILED Pep rallies at MCA were short and uneventful. Even though the cheerleaders tried, they failed to promote spirit among the student body. The only people with spirit were the cheerleaders, eighth graders and the teams. 122 123 125 126 127 128 ORGANIZA TIONS j500 tuJiakcrxo '9? fyi-lsm O- V ScV - . n U c) - ° UmtJ 129 I 2 1 8 io BUCCANEER STAFF The 1983 Buccaneer Staff has worked diligently to keep the year book a reality at MCA.
