Ashantilly Thomas Spalding, the great-grandson of JohnMorh McIntosh, resided on Sapelo Island, but also owned property on the main- land. He designed a winter residence near Darien, which he called Ashantilly after the Barony of Ashantilly in Scotland to which his father had been heir. In 1937 the interior of the house was destroyed by fire with only the foundation and tabby walls left firm. Ashantilly is now owned by the Haynes family and has been beautifully restored and furnished by them. The Buccaneer staff extends its sincere gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Haynes and to the Misses Ann Lee and Frances Haynes for so graciously allowing the use of their lovely place and for permitting the intrusion upon their privacy.
