At Thanksgiving, assisted by the Tri-Hi-Y, we collected several baskets of food from the stu- dents, and delivered them to families in the community. Our club sent two representatives to the District Conference which met at Culpeper in October . We had several visiting speakers, including Reverend Gordon Cathey of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Dr. J. P. Allen, of the First Baptist Church, and Mr. G. C. A beautiful hook shot, Pauline . Get that rebound, girls. Two more points, Pauline . QJy £ddJ( The girls ' 1950-51 basketball team with Arlene Watkins and Margaret Lee Cleveland as co-captains, proved to be the best in Mclntire ' s history, having tied with Madison for the District H, Group III Cham- pionship. The f i rst game of the season whi ch was wi th Orange proved that Arlene Watkins, Pauline Collier, and Margaret Lee Cleveland who are all three-year star- men, would be our outstanding athletes again. They took games from Orange, Fluvanna, and Greenwood before suffering their first loss to Madison . After that one defeat, th£y easily took the remainder of the games which were with Madison, Fluvanna, Orange and Greenwood. The coaching of Miss Morris and Miss Garland was the big factor in the team ' s success. We regret the loss of our three lettermen, Arlene Watkins, whose average points per game were 26, Pauline Collier, whose excellent passing was out- standing on both defense and offense and Margaret Lee Cleveland who was the outstanding guard for the season, but we sincerely hope that next year ' s team will be very successful. I 1 l ' SEATED, LEFT TO RIGHT: Franklin Glass, Preston Nelms, Eddie Everett, Garroll Kirby, and Garnett Gatlin. KNEELING: Arthur Wood, Billy Payne, Tom Clark, Phil Deane, and Albert Harlow. STANDING: John Bowen, George Woods, Marvin Spencer, Billy Proffitt, Silas Short, Calvin Kidd, Dan Finch, Bernard Carr, and Mr. Kerlin. asLetbci t( Our star scores again. TheMcIntire basketball team, with Eddie Everett and Ted Mullmann as co-captains, has had a very successful season. Their first game, which was with Orange, started their winning streak; after which they defeated Fluvanna and Greenwood. Then came the Madison game which everyone knew was going to be a tough one. It was played on the Madison court with the home team winning in an over time period, 39-38 . The next game with Madison was one week later and was played at Mclntire. In this game Mclntire got her revenge by winning with the one-sided score of 40-22 . After this, Mclntire had I ittle trouble in taking games from Fluvanna, Orange and Greenwood. The game with Greenwood, the last one on the District H schedule, ended with Mclntire and Madison tied for the championship. Mclntire will participate in the Virginia High School League tournament at Culpeper in an effort to win the district title. Place that bal I Ted . That ' s the way to stop them . 43 Strike ' em out, Ted ! ueLt( The baseball team at Mclntire proved to be quite skilled last year by remaining unbeated throughout the season and capturing the District III title. This year eight lettermen, Eddie Everett, Carroll Kirby, Ted Mullmann, Randolph Hamm, Gilbert Rose, Bob Mullmann, Bobby Bransford, and Billy Proffitt will definitely be assets to the team. Members of last year ' s team missing are: Melvin Lynch and Randolph Payne through graduation, also, Frank Grissinger and Woody Price who joined the armed forces. Ted Mullmann, the leading pitcher, has a strike-out average of 38% in 1950 and has shown signs of being one of the most promising high school pitchers in this part of the country . Mclntire again looks forward to bringing home that title . Let him walk you, Eddie.
