LAURA JOHNSON s We this, the sixth MCCHALVA, to our Alma Mater, Mclntire High School, which in June, 1948 completes eleven years of service to education in Albemarle County. Two of the class of '48, Barbara Odend'hal' and Dick Scott were among the first graders in Miss Anderson's room in the fall of '37 when the doors of Mclntire were opened for the first time. Therefore! We feel a special honor in being the graduating class that has been a part of the school from its beginning. Introduction We, as high school students, have seen our country in four very important years of her history, each one having direct effect upon us. From the full wartime production through the gradual return to peacetime operations, we have known 'well-rationing, price control, and lastly, climbing prices. These periods, however, will be thoroughly covered by the story books of our nation for all to study. Therefore, we have not attempted to bring such changing times into our book, but the aim has been to record briefly a very special and private history of the year 1947-48 at Mclntire. If the MCCHALVA can fulfill in a small way this purpose, we shall count it a success. page fam MCCHALVA J N Faculty dnd Administration i Seated, left to right: Miss Norford, Mrs. Carpenter, Mrs. Watson, Mrs. Early, Mr. Trent, Miss Sadler, Mrs. Morse, Mrs. Wehrle, Miss Anderson. Tho main project adopted by the Senior Girls 4-H was sewing. Many articles were made among which were aprons, broom stick skirts and the official green and white 4-H uniforms. The health and safety programs combined with several parties made the year constructive as well as recreational. Our success was due to the leadership of Miss Lucy T. Johnson, our county agent. LEE HENSLEY, JOYCE MUNDIE The Arts and Crafts Club at Mclntire is a club that was organized to develop the talent of students along the lines of Woodcraft, metalcraft. needlecraft and refinishing furniture. The club is in two sections this year, one for the boys and one for the girls. The girls have shown special interest in learning to knit, crochet, weave, stencil, paint pictures and to make wood cuts. Some interesting pieces have been completed. The boys have shown special interest in working with wood and several pieces of woodburning represent unusual talent. Clay modeling and glazing clay objects have proven their worth as subjects. These boys and girls hope to work up to a Craft Shop in the future. Such a shop would be an interesting step to commercially minded students. puyr flzfrfy MCl'HALVA Literary Club Smfcri, loft fo righf: Nuttycombe, A, Early, Mrs. Adams, Margfaret Mundy, Striblingr, E.
