I cmiMNDimG COMMANDER ROBERT D. JENKINS III Commander Jenkins was born I I SepU-inl)cr 1950 and is Ihe son ol Lt. Col and Mrs. Robert I). Jenkins, Jr. of Mi)l)ile, Alab ama. He received his commission from officer candidale school in 1974 aflcr graduating fiuni the University of South Alabama where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. CDR Jenkins then attended Fleet Sonar school. Key West Florida with follow-on assignment to the U.S. Naval Facility Grand Turk Britisli West Indies. In 1975, CDR Jenkins attended the Naval School of Diving and Salvage, Washington, DC and was assigned to USS Preserver (ARS 8) as CIC Officer, Assistant Diving Officer and Supply Officer. In 1978, he reported to USS Josephus Daniels (CG-27) as Communications Officer. CDR Jenkins graduated from the Surface Warfare Department Head Course in 1980 and reported to USS Downcs (FF-1070) as Operations Officer with a follow-on assignment in 1982 aboard USS Schenectady (LST-1 185) as First Lieutenant Weapons Officer In 1984, CDR Jenkins reported to Ihe Naval Postgraduate school, and in 1985 received his Masters of Arts degree In National Security Affairs with emphasis in Naval Technical Intelligence. CDR Jenkins then reported to USS Reasoner (FF-1063) as txecuiive Officer CDR Jenkins ' shore duty assignments include: Staff F ' acully at the U.S. Naval Academy (1987-89) where he served as head of the leadership section within the Division of Professional Development Most recently, CDR Jenkins served as the f eputy Chief. Naval Systems Branch Defense Intelligence Agency, Washington, DC. CDR Jenkins is a dislinguishcd graduate of both the Naval War College Command and Staff School and the Armed Forces Staff College. Among his decorations, CDR Jenkins wears the Defense Mcritorimis Service Medal, Joint Services Commendation Medal, Navy Cominenda (ion Medal (2 gold stars in lieu of second and thud award).
