This is a good time to pause and consider what school days means to us. It is indeed a privilege to go to school, although many of you may be thinking, Oh, if we only didn't have to go to school . Do you realize that if you didnlt have this education, that you are now acquir- ing or have already acquired, what a difference it would mean to you when later in your life you apply for a position? One of the first questions most em- ployers ask is Have you a high school diploma? If your answer is No your chances of getting the position are very small. The employer also usually wants to know what kind of work you did in high school-that is, what your grades were. The one with the highest grades stands a better chance of Patricia Bradshaw getting the position. We have heard graduates of high school after they have been out a year or more say, I wish I had studied harder while in school . After going out into the world and entering competition with others they realize the value of a high school education and that harder work while in high school is important. Therefore many young people should take the advice of these who have seen their mistake. In this day and age every time you read a newspaper, you see that your world is changing faster and faster, so we want to study and keep up with the times. In school we get not only a background for the subjects we may need to earn a living, but a social life as well. From your work in school you can decide on your life- time work desired, and whether or not you want to go on to college or other forms of secondary school. It is also here you learn cooperation and how to work with others. You also learn rules of etiquette and how to act in public. School activities, such as formal dances, give assurance in these things. It is here at school we get our knowledge of what life is really about, and what we need to make our community a better and happier place to live not only for our- selves but for others too. Yes, we think this opportunity of getting a high school education is indeed our heritage. For it is our privilege to make America and the whole world a better and freer place in which to live. i So may every boy and girl resolve to get an education and may we all do our part to make the schools better places to gain knowledge for future generations. PATRICIA BRADSHAW Editor 2 DEDICATION Miss Gladys Twitchell Here's to you, Miss Twitchell, From the depth of our hearts, After four years together, Now we must part. Mary DeRusha was chosen for our substitute. At our first meeting, we chose Beverly Hadley for our Captain. We also decided that we wanted new suits. We chose blue skirts, yellow weskits and white blouses. Two food sales and one dance were put on to earn money for our new uniforms. Although we made quite a bit of money, we didnlt have enough to pay for our uniforms, so we will be putting on some food sales in the near future. 4 On behalf of the squad, I wish to thank Mrs. Ronald Bedell of Woodsville, N. H., for making our uniforms, and also the classes and teachers for helping during the bas- ketball season. Some have traveled to success, Others found matrimonial happiness. But they always turn their helping hand To a day of need they understand. They help the cause, they hear the cry, Forever faithful, Mclndoes Alumni. We will miss you Seniors one and all, When we return to school next fall. We are sure you'll be honored whatever you do. Good Luck to all and God bless you. NORENE BLAKE Junior MCINDOES M is for Mclndoes, the school of much worth, C is for centennial that honored its birth, I is for interest we all must impart, N is for nobleness we'll pour from our heart, D is for democracy which we hope to retain, O is for order, may the Academy maintain, E is for equality, race, color, or creed, S is for standards by which we succeed. Of life's battles fought and won. For Mclndoes I'll take my stand BILLY Pacon FOR MY DEAR SAVIOR There is a little white church in the valley, The sweet sound of the church-going bell, Where the people gather together on the Sabbath, The sweet story of Jesus to tell. How He died on the cross to save sinners, How He died to save those who are lost, Like the 99 sheep that had a shelter, I am like the one on the hill which was lost. I hope some day I will meet my dear Savior, Where I shall sleep sweetly at the foot of his cross. JEANIE HUNT Sophomore 27 CLASS POEM Reg drives a Chevrolet, so he can court, His girls both night and day. Here's a gal that sure is tops, For our class, Pat has done a lot. Anyone who is nice and pleasant like joan, Really deserves to be well-known. Dora is small, true, and fair, She's sure to get ahead without much despair Bessie is usually quiet and shy, That she's nice, you can't deny. Phyllis is a girl in business ed, Weire sure in this field she'll get ahead. Bob Ward is who we mean, When we say, he sure is keen! Maxine is ordinarily gay, For she awaits the fun of each new day. Barbie really is a scream, With laughter she's always seen. Of Marilyn we are all very proud, She is admired in every crowd. Bev is active and full of fun, And is well liked by everyone. Mary DeRusha we will soon see, A fine secretary, busy as a bee. With Bobby's laughter each day so near, We just forget our worries and fears. P. J. is like a bluebird in May, Flirting about happy and gay. We entered school in '51. Kind of timid, but full of fun. We worked and joked and played a bit, And were quite crazy, we must admit. In '52 we were more at home, And paid more attention to the comb. We were learning a little every day And of course were still really gay. It was back to school in '53, We couldnit seem to ever agree. There was this and that and everything, We could play ball, and of course could sing. For '54-'55 our last last year, With great abundance of good cheer. Here's wishing luck to every one, In all the wonderful years to come. I have a rose for each sweet smile, A thorn for every frown, Each rose is pressed close to my heart, Each thorn lies on the ground. And now the days roll quickly by, But what have we to fear, Some day we'll wander far away, Our love will guide us here. MARGARET DERUSHA Freshman Class 31 CLASS PROPHECY Bev yawned as she sat up. Oh, what a dream! she thought, but what had awakened her? Then she heard it, the front doorbell. Running to the mirror she hastily combed her hair. Oh, I look a wreck, but thatys what I get for sleeping after dinner. Opening the door, she saw Maxine standing before her. Come on in and make yourself comfortable, she said. I've just been napping, and what a dream I had! I dreamed we had a class reunion back at old McIA. Why, how odd! I suppose reading about Bob Hatley capturing those bank robbers set you to thinking about the rest of the class. Tell me about it. Bev shut her eyes a moment to recall. I can see the hall we were in so plainly, she said. It was decorated in our class colors, and there was a large calendar on the wall with May 27, 1975, circled. Why-that's next week Friday, Maxine exclaimed. My goodness, that's right! Well, to get back to the dream, everyone told what they had done since graduating. Most were quite interesting. Dora had gone to college and graduated a stewardess. Later, she married and settled down in the country. Bessie was married soon after graduation too, but first she completed her courses to be a beautician. She still does a bit of work in her spare time, but her family keeps her rather busyfl What about Phyll-did she become the world's greatest secretary, as she said she would? asked Maxine. Well, she is well on her way. In the dream, she had entered a contest, the win- ner to be the best secretary in the U. S. A. She was tied with two other women for that title. If she wins, she will be the only married woman to achieve that honor. Mary went into the secretarial line of business too, but gave it up when she married. How about the boys? Did they have anything to say? Oh yes! Bob Ward joined the Armed Services after graduating. Now he has one of the finest farms in this part of the country and is quite a power in his town. He always could convince people his way of thinking was right, even when it wasn't. P, J. has a garage and is one of the best mechanics in New Hampshire. Bob Hatley was just as famous a state trooper in the dream as he is in reality. He had just received a commission for his work in breaking up a dope syndicate. Reg went into the business field, and became an accomplished bookkeeper in a large firm. Pat and joan became skilled X-Ray technicians. Both are married now, and their families take up most of their time. No room left for professional work. Barbara is in South Africa working as a missionary. Marilyn is a missionary too. She is in Spain just now. Both she and Barbara studied in the U. S. before going abroad. Well-that was some dream! Did I saygl had been a waitress until I married? asked Maxine. Yes, and I was just going to say that I had been a waitress too, but you came and woke me up. Well, it's getting late, and I've got to start supper. The kids will be home in a short while.
