Newell. THIRD ROW--R. Dickimon, W. Nelron, A. Nelron, C. Choate, G. Lang. CLASS HISTORY FRESHMEN YEAR At our first class meeting we got acquainted with each other. We left the elec- tion of officers until our next meeting, at which the following officers were elected: President, Patricia Fenng Vice-President, Richard Hatleyg Secretary, Ruth Baileyg Treas- urer, Russell Mooreg Student Council, Justine Brooks and Russell Moore. Our class was very large this year. At the first of the year we had 22 members, but Bruce Wells was transferred to Groton early in the year and Terrence Raye left about Christ- mas time. Mr. Rising was our class advisor. SOPHOMORE YEAR We began our second year with much more confidence, having our first year behind us. At our first class meeting, during the first week of school, we elected the following officers: President, Gayle Langg Vice-President, Dorothy Dubeg Secretary, Carolyn Choate, Treasurer, Joan Whiteg Student Council, jerolyn Newell and Leonard I CLASS HISTORY QContinuedJ Bowen. We then initiated the shy and dubious Freshmen on September 15, 1953, making them parade down the street with their gala effects, but we softened mem with a warm reception to McIA, to become official members along with us. For fic- tivities we had another dance during the first half of the school year and we tooklypart in the Prize Speaking Contest in which we fared quite well, having a member 6f our class winning and coming in third with the other schools. In basketball we ha two girls from our class that were on the first teamg and, for the boys, we had one on , first team. We put on a play called Oh Baby, in which we were in competitiory with the other classes for the One Act Play Contest. We came in last but it was fun anyway. Ruth Bailey transferred to Peacham Academy. Dixie Dickey transferred from Groton High School for the year. Mr. Powell was our class advisor. JUNIOR YEAR . On September 9, 1955, we held our first class meeting. The following officers were elected: President, Joan White, Vice-President, Patricia Littleg Secretary, Doro- thy Dubeg Treasurer, Jerolyn Newell, and Student Council, Carroll Choate and Patricia Fenn. As you all know, we were eager beavers to earn money. 'So, our class planned a food sale. Later, in October, we had the Halloween Party. In girls' basketball, we had four girls from our class on the first team and two boys for the first team on the boys' team. Also, in Prize Speaking this year, we had the honor of having one of our classmates, Patricia Little, come out third. Our class this year had the same number of students as it had last year, with the exception of Joyce Buskey leaving School. Dixie Dickey transferred to Groton and Kenneth De Rusha took her place. Mr. Powell was our class advisor again this year. SENIOR YEAR School opened September 9, 1953. We enrolled with 18 members this year. Russell Moore left us to join the Army. They were Cleft to right! judy Conant, Freshmang Patricia Fenn, Seniorg Beverly Hadley, juniorg Dorothy Dube, Seniorg Camille Sicard, Sophomoreg and Dora Dargie, junior. Christine Theroux was our substitute cheerleader. At the beginning of the year it was voted by the school that the present cheer- leaders would be in until the end of their Senior year. Substitutes of the past year would replace the retired cheerleaders. During the year we put on a dance to raise money in order to pay back the money borrowed from the classes last year. We also had a food sale so we would be able to have a cheerleading fund. I have certainly enjoyed cheerleading with the squad this year. They have been most helpful, co-operative, and peppy. I sincerely wish them the best of luck in the future!
