That is what the people of today are complaining aboutzreYou really can't blame them. Our boys are being killed in Korea like flies, while the pol- iticans in our own country sit back relaxed, wondering where they can invest the mighty dollar, so it will yield the biggest dividends. The old folks used to say that money was the root of all evil. I do believe it is playing its own part in todays crisis. Now don't think that I am putting all the fault on the American government. You and I have changed with the times. when we want to do our laundry we just step into the laundry room, and in a very short time have our washing completed, washed by an automatic washing machine, dried by an automatic clothes dryer, and ironed on a mangle. we enter our kitchen with the task completed for the exception of the mending which doesn't take long on an elec- tric sewing machine. The same task would have taken at least three days for Gramma to complete and just think of her acking back, while sho scrubbed for hours on a scrub board. Also her many trips from the stove to the ironing board carrying sad iron Cas far as I am con- cerned I would be sad rather than the 1rons.D Now it is lunch time, with a flip of a button, your fire is li- ghted without the need of paper, matches, and kindling wood. Before you have time to get your food from the refrigerator the tea kettle is boiling, before Grandmother would have had time to descend the cellar stairs, to get her food from the cupboard in the cellar, where the meat, milk and parisables were kept because that was the only cool spot in the house Kand at the best fresh meat could only be kept one day.J By the time Gramma would have ascended the stairs with her arms loaded land perhaps in her climb lost part of her food down the cellar stairsl our dinner is nearly prepared, and cooked, thanks to the help of the pressure cooker and the pleasure of having a cool kitchen. After dinner, the left over food is put in covered dishes and stored in the refrigerator, to be used ln a salad or dressed up in some fancy dish with a new fandangled name. From now on it is easy, the table is cleared in a Jiffy, the dishes rinsed and put in the automatic dishwasher and forgotten. Just think of Gramma with her endless trips to the cellar bottom, to put her food away, the dish pans and the tedious job of dish washing, Cwonder if Gramm's hands aren't dissolved in all the water.D By this time we have put the finishing touches to the house and taken a shower and dressed. All we have to do is hop into an automobile to go to see Aunt Jennie Cpoor Gramma is just dragging the old wash tub in for a bath.J Yes, good old Dobbin to is a thing of the past. I have heard Gramma tell about taking a dish of oats to the pasture, thinking that if Dobbin had a taste of oats she might agree to have the halter put on her. Perhaps after a hour of teasing and coaxing and when Dobbin had the last bite of oats from the dish, she decides not to be haltered 'DfD!D'D1DHD'D'D2.DrD1D'D'D'JaD:InMJrD'Dul4:.DdkihD'l.mL'UD'V2MiWWwWUVUbWlwwzDzL',L1il - I1-D-D'D D D'D'D D D D D D D'D D D D D D D D D v D
