Girls State In the spring of each year, four girls representing the jun- ior class are selected to attend the American Legion Girls’ State. The Girls State program is designed to promote leader- men in order that they may serve their school and com- munity better during their sen- ior year. Miss 16 of North America 1973 mT || Leaaa PUREE DE Jennifer Howard, A Meck sophomore, was chosen — ST ge, ws ; “A aa ! as Miss 16 of Nashville in May 1972. Later during the summer she went to Houston to compete for the national title and won the crown. She also won her weight in silver dollars, a mink coat and a walk on part in a movie. Jennifer has worked hard for these honors and she plans on a career in modeling. She partici- pates in many activities at McGavock. Ba q

Boys State The American Legion sponsers Boys State each summer which is held on the campus of Tennessee Tech. One boy from each small school from Mc- Gavock is selected to represent the Junior class at this event. There will be a mock election held and they will learn more about the democratic pro- cess of our government. The boys that have been selected to go are; UPPER LEFT, Charlie Neal. ABOVE; Mike Brown.
