These were our first activities during McGavock’s First Home- coming. A car was provided to ‘“‘bash’’ for those who were brave enough to attempt it. Ricky Tuberville and Jimmy Sanders made sure that the Donelson Fire Department was on hand to help us bury the Gallatin football player that burned to defeat. Because of rain, the game was rescheduled but the dance was held on Friday night from 8:00 to 11:00 in our gym. The Stu- dent Council sponsered the dance and served refreshments. ‘““Cuntree Hamb,” a well known group of McGavock musicians, provided the music for the variety of students and teachers that attended. Pictures and mums were the responsibility of the Junior class and these things made our 1972 Homecoming a memorable event. SEATED: Tricia Dennis, Betty Campbell, Regina Davis, Janice Stout, Carole Cox, Claudia Curd, Jeanette Sims, Tracey Boles, Kathy Farris, Vicki Corraza. STANDING: Joannie Kommer, Cindy Cate, Teresa Goard, Becky Morton, Tonya Alexander, Sue Douglas, Christy England, Janie Earheart, Debra Utley, Robin Paris, Susan Gilmer, Janice Overton, and Sancia Blevins. The offical McGavock Homecoming Presentation began at 6:55 on Saturday night, October 28. The queens were chosen by the football team. McGavock ended up with a Homecoming court of 23 queens. As the band began their performance, the cheerleaders were introduced. ‘‘The Summer of ’42” was the back- ground music for the presentation of the queens. Each girl carried a bouquet of flowers and was escourted by a Senior football player. A float, designed and constructed by Coach Rigsby, the cheerleaders and the art department, seated the queens during the game along with their umbrella and hotdogs. The Senior band members were presented during the half time. The victory score of 14-7 over Gallatin brought Mc- Gavock’s First Homecoming — 1972 to a successful close. Charley’s Aunt Charley’s aunt, a three act play, was performed Dec. 15 and 16 at the McGavock Theater. It was a humorous story about a fraternity house and three boys who needed a chaperone so their girlfriends could come over. Charley’s aunt who was to be the chaperone was late arriving. One of the boys disguised himself as Charley’s aunt. The result was disasterous when the real aunt arrived. It was an ex- cellent play to all who saw it. The cast consists of ten actors: Gene Miller, Curt Porter, Jerry Hyland, Mike Fields, Donna Frost, Cathy Hooper, Julie Sietzman, Greer Gainey, Robin Heath, Ronnie Edens. Others who added to the success of this play were the crew: Kent Cathcart, Barnetta Carter, Regina Davis, Renee Wooten, Arlis E. Green, Lisa Pate, George Fleming, Chris Wilson, David Wright, Bill Conley, Doug Jones, Mike Brown, Jason Litchford, Robin Wren, Becky Green. Fe ere 4 i SR eHSs Bins 42 49803 One of the special events of this year was when the Social Studies department sponsered a mock presidental election. American history students played the parts of the candidates and campaigned in their places. Campaigning included the Presentation of party platforms to American history classes, and all-day rally, and television interviews by the media department and the electronics department. Richard M. Nixon, who won the election, was portrayed by Steve Evers. Rick Scalf portrayed George McGovern, John Schmitz portrayed by Andrew McClarney and Lyle Gregory portrayed Dr. Benjamin Spock. Thursday night featured a concert by the award winning McGavock concert band and wind ensemble. One of the highlights of the pro- gram was a solo by Celia Smith who performed ‘Finale from Tschai- kowsky Violin Concerto Arranged for Solo Clarinet.” The concert also presented guest trumpetist Don Shef- field and the Cameron Junior High School band. Friday and Saturday nights the auditorium vibrated to the excite- ment of “Circus.”’ Amidst the thrills of a real-life circus atmosphere complete with clowns, wild animals, popcorn, and balloons, Gene Miller, the sad little clown, seeks accept- ance by the other clowns who re- ject him. Meanwhile, the Queen of hhe Circus, Donna Frost, is search- ing for her long lost daughter. Claudia Curd, the trapeze artist, is changed into an ugly hag by the wizards. And the show goes on — tumbling by the McGavock gymnas- tics team, freaks, magicians Steve Burton and Larry Sandlin — to a happy ending in which Claudia finds beauty, Donna finds her daughter, and Gene is accepted by the other clowns. One of the out- standing features of the show was the Hollywood Revue: Julie Seitz- man as Scarlett O’Hara, Greer Gainey as Shirley Temple, Barnetta Carter and Lyle Gregory as “Wizard of Oz,” Wanda Smith as Mae West, bill Grist as W. C. Fields, Deborah Walker as “‘Hello, Dolly!” and John Williams as The Music Man.” Following the performance, the Drama Department awards were presented to outstanding drama stu- dents. Soloists included Judy Allen, Debbie Chapin, Carole Cox, Danny Manning, Kenny Olive, Jeff Furness, Lynn Sykes, and Cheryl Toombs. Guest Soloist was Bob AI- ley from Belmont College. Fine Arts Festival The Junior-Senior Prom plans began in Novem- ber when the junior class sold chocolate bars to finance the event. Committees were chosen through the Student Council. These commit- tees included Entertainment, Refreshment, Theme and Decoration, Program and Invita- tion, and Pictures. Many people put in quite a few hours of hard work to make the Prom happen. Dr. Riccobono was the chairman of the Prom and everything seemed to be very organized on the night of April 27. The entertain- ment was great. “Glory”, formally called “Cuntree Hamb’’, played many different types of music and got many people dancing. Five members of the group are McGavock students. Punch and cookies were served in the balcony of the gym. The Senior Presentation began at 9:30 as Jill Pardue and Patti Pickle introduced each senior couple as they appeared in the rocket. At the beginning of the season they couldn’t seem to get everything together. Under excellent coaching and determination on the girls part they improved tremendously. They ended the regular sea- son with a record of I1 wins and 10 losses. The tourna- ment games showed the real talent of this fine team. They ended tournament play with a district runner-up title, the Region IV champs, and a trip to sub-state play. This is a record that any player would be proud to be a part of. One hundred fifteen voice group meets daily to rehearse and learn the fundamentals of proper singing. Director Robert Binkley chose Gabrielli’s ‘“‘Jubilate Deo” to perform with traditional carols for the Christmas concert. During the second semester “‘Requiem”’ by Mozart was planned for the major part of the spring concert. Also planned were several spirituals, one of which was arranged by McGavock’s Mrs. Bobby Jean Frost. The chorus was honored by an invitation to perform at the Mother’s Day celebration on the lawn of Governor Dunn’s home. Here they performed several patriotic numbers with the Nashville Youth Symphony, conducted by Mr. Max Bragado-Darman. The Madrigals le Originally, Madrigal groups were performed in the Renaissance. With the revival of this music there has been an awakening of interest in Madrigal Singing. The McGavock Madrigal Singers have performed for the past two years with a style authenticated and perfected by their director Robert E. Binkley. The 15 members comprising this group were chosen from approximately 50 voices auditioning before the McGavock Music Department Faculty. They have been acclaimed as one of the finest in the country. LaFever for his cooperation Merchants and Patrons for supporting us by purchasing ads I'm actually glad I’ve got an opportunity to write this. Now I've got a chance to explain a lot of things that would never be known unless I just happened to have told you. Being edi- tor of an annual is a big job. It’s a hard job. I’m not even sure yet if it was worth it. That depends on your reactions | to it. I can’t please everyone. I’m not even sure if I pleased myself. But don’t misunderstand me, I wouldn’t want to do it over again, but I wouldn’t have changed jobs with anyone on the staff. Oh, I almost forgot. This is the page where I’m supposed _ to thank my staff and tell them how great they were. Well, they really were great. Some of them deserve more credit than I’m going to give them and some of them deserve none of the above. But I won’t mention any names. I must personally thank Miss Fitzpatrick, our sponsor, for her patience and gul- dance. The entire annual staff owes her their appreciation, I) particularly. Also, I must thank my assistant editor, Kim Crook. We've known each other for so long and we've felt so alike about this annual that I don’t know if she was a good assis- tant editor because I don’t know if I was a good editor. Now as I reflect back over the past year of working on the annual, it was like a good movie coming to an end; it’s almost over, but I wish it would go on and on. It’s been an honor and a privilege to present you with this book because you are my friends. {3 : 4 ie i r 3 he 4 Ce tee he tei ee tee eee ena ead ee ee ee ee eee ee ee ee ee a ee ee een ne rerestreses tirdiek Gheige siete, : A aioe ante b hey N i F sia bbecicie siteteyresy rf ‘ Le Ab Te lek ihr RLS NS eel ep ted Let etats 14 pat i ANU Th hy — “2 ie eres letitseieict tents i ita a enhae Secret gop reads +f die de tm aren, ae He ele ia, eee tie See tes FO ee tootsie Pa y Sle mieisatiene This ai! itt Heh it ‘ yee i Sta ier shade Att ptt, ’ Se Setar Fe tnt $5823
