As the first year of McGavock High School comes to a close, it seems impossible that so many obstacles have been overcome. When we started our school year in Septem- ber of ‘71, our building wasn’t completely finished and we had about 2700 students most of whom came from Cameron, Donelson, and Two Rivers High Schools. We had no student body officers, or class officers, or annual staff or student leaders of any kind. The end of September brought about the selection of the annual staff and our long and hard job began. We the members of the staff have tried to do our very best in giving you a book of experiences and memories that we hope you will look back on with fondness and remember that you were a part of the beginning of the most fantastic school in the South. This book is not the effort of just a few but is the WORK of the entire staff of 38 members plus our two competent sponsors Miss Judy Fitzpatrick and Miss Wanda Smith without whose help this book would not have been pos- sible. Because of the lack of space I cannot mention each staff member by name but each one had a job to do and everyone came through with a job well done. | would like to give a special thanks to my two co-editors Cheryl Hendricks and Edna Thomas. Without their help my hours would have been longer and more hectic. We the staff members had our moments of trials and tribulations trying to meet those awful deadlines, mixed with a few tears of heartache and exhaustion, but we have come through this the best of friends and | wouldn’t trade months of hard work with anyone. There are many other people outside of the staff who deserve a special thank you! We appreciate the teachers who were so understanding about letting us miss class, Mrs. Davis for handling our money, our many photographers and a special thanks to Mr. LaFever for his guidance and cooperation. But most of all we want to thank you, the student body, in putting your trust and faith in our 1971-72 staff and especially do we appreciate your patience and acceptance of our new ideas of an annual covering the entire school year. It is our hope that even though McGavock High started its first year with what seemed like unsurmountable ob- stacles, we have overcome each one and have built a strong foundation for a really great school. We have started off our beginning with many trophies in every field and I think we can be proud to say we are members or graduates of McGavock High School. Terrie Ezell Editor-in-Chief 484
