| Our girls’ basketball team had a ‘‘fantabulous’” season with a record of 26-1. Under the direction of Optimist Coach of the Year, Miss Doris Rogers, we swept away the honors of NIL, District 17, and Region IX championships. McGavock also took the Maryville Classic by beating Walland and Porter. This caused everyone to stand up and take notice. Individual honors were brought to our team by several players. Bettie Buchanan received Banner ALL-NIL, Tennessean All- City, and Optimist player of the Year. She was also chosen Most Valuable Player in the District and Regional Tourna- ments. Other awards went to Ann Gleaves, Rise Kyle, Janet Bowden, Pam Miller, Patti Pardue, and Cathy Coursey. All of this adds up to a No. 1 team! edema ee
