Although our maps showed a finished school, we soon found out different. The walls were wet, the ceiling had holes, and we had no name on our school. As we walked into the office, our eyes automatically shifted to the many wires sticking out of the wall. Our school wasn’t physically ready for us, and our mental attitudes weren’t the greatest. Due to the size of Mc- Gavock, each of us felt like aliens. We kept on asking ourselves, ‘Where do I stand here?” or ‘‘How can I become a part of the huge school?” Well, as we began associating with others, these questions began to an- swer themselves. Our school began to grow and soon we were starting to work together. From the first time we stepped into McGavock, each of us noticed how dif- ferent our school really was. One of the most modern differences was the Carpet. When we walked into the classrooms, our eyes were focused on the walls between each classroom — there were none! QOpen-space classrooms and 3- room “pods’’ were new to everyone. Among classroom conveniences were private desks called ‘study carrels.” These independent desks have been very useful. Also, McGavock is equipped with many nice conference rooms.
