NOT PICTURED: Dick Coppock. The Torch Honor Society consists of students whohave made the required number of points which are based on grades and activities. To be eligible for membership, a student must have made 42 points for their Freshman year, 44 points for their Sophomore year, and 46 points for their Junior and Senior year. It is impossible to make all of these points on grades alone. The student must take part in some activities. The Torch pins are awarded at graduation. It is considered an honor to wear this pin.

Janet Whitacre, seventeen year old Senior, has been active in school, community, and church activities. In 1955-56 Janet held the tide of F.F.A. Sweetheart. The 1955-56 year held another surprise for her when she was chosen as one of the two princesses for the Milton Freewater Pea Festival. Janet, being a fine horsewoman, made several showings with her horse. This year Janet has been the President of the Senior class and of the Pep Band. Along with all of her work Janet has been photographer for the annual. Janet has been a very successful student at McEwen the last four years. Ronna Lieuallen, eighteen year old Senior, has been a leader in school, community, and church. In 195fr-57 Ronna received the honor of F.F.A. Sweetheart. Ronna was a delegate in the United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth” in 1955-56. Ronna made several speeches regarding her trip to the U.N. The next big surprise was being chosen delegate to Girls’ State sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. Last year Ronna received the dramatics award for being the outstanding student in dramatics. This year Ronna has been the Editor of the annual and President of Girls’ League. Gaye McEwen, eighteen year old Senior, has been a leader in school and community activities. In 1954-56 Gaye was honored by being chosen F.F.A. Sweetheart for the McEwen Chapter. In 1955-56 Gaye was honored by being chosen one of the princesses for the Umatilla County Fair Court. Gaye was very busy appearing at various places during the year. Another surprise for Gaye came when she found she was a delegate to Girls’ State held in Salem. Last year Gaye received the speech award for outstanding work and effort. This year Gaye has been President of Thespians, Pep Band Majorette, and Student Body Secretary.
