The Student Body of McEwen sponsored and presented a plav, The Groom Said No!” The play for two successful performances, December 1 and 2, 1949. The play concerned a young war veteran who came home to find his future all planned for him, without regard for his personal desires. His family and girl made things pretty tough for a while, but, of course, our hero came through, told the whole crew where to get off, married his true love, a nurse, and presumably lived happily ever after.

BAND Left to Right—Back Row: Mr. Fred Diehl, Jackie Pittman, Sylvia Harden, Earls Bums, Betty Swaggart. Third Row: Jack Greenlee, Althea Swaggart, Rosalie Bissonnett, David Bunch, Evelyn Packer, Lois Fuson. Second Row: Beulah Bissonnett, Royce Bunch, Harriet Schmidtgall, Darlene Montee, Beverly Tucker, Gib Morrison. Front Row: Carleen Buchel, Marlyn Davis, Merle Math- wich, Ralph Wolford. The band, under the direction of Mr. Fred Diehl, has had a very busy first year. It is made up of tweny-one high school members and nineteen grade school members. During basketball season they played for nearly every home game. They also performed several times during the tournament. A concert was given for the pleasure of the town's people on the ] 9th of April. On the 21st they played in the contest at La Grande. Everyone in McEwen is very proud of their band and they agree that they have made remarkable progress in just one year.

Front Row: Marlyn Davis, Betty Swag- gart, Jeanne Haigwood, Fay Haverland, Lois Fuson. The Junior Class awoke one morning with a feverish desire to put on a play. It dawned on them that otherwise they would have to pay for their pram out of their own pockets. In the face of this discouraging prospect, the Juniors put on a lively Western, complete, with music, dancing, a murder, corny jokes, and the raunchiest cast of stubblebums, and villias that anyone has ever seen. The play was presented twice, on the 13th and 15th of April, to enthusi- astic audiences, and the Juniors at least got to pay for some of their prom.
