SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY Nobody really expects much of this year's class. On a recent gallup poll, 90 percent of the male population of the class listed Ditch Digger as their pet, future occupation. Seventy percent of that number desired to live in Dogpatch, and the remainder wanted to reside in Skunk Hollow, all giving as their reason that they wished to be near Tobacco Rhoda, and other friendly characters in that area. Among the girls, 95 percent wished to be old-maid school teachers, and live to the age of 80 before retiring to live in cute little white houses and throw rocks at all children who might pass in that direction. There were a few seniors who listed occupational and social preferences differing from the general run as indicated above. There were also a few who had second choices if they couldn't achieve the desired position. Bill Campbell, for example, said he wouldn't mind joining Big Barnsmell as another inside man at the skonk works. (We wouldn't have said that about him only he didn't turn in a write-up for the annual.) Arthur Teague of course will become a lawyer, as a matter of fact he is already beating a path up and down the alley in back of the jail so that the regular prisoners will get to see him sooner. Carroll Cannon wants to be an editor, so she will undoubtedly wind up editing the paper published at the State Hospital in Pendleton. Connie Harris wanted to be a laboratory worker, but she blew herself up before she reached the age of 25. Ralph Wolford and Raymond Wolford went into the Wildflower business. Ray picks them out on his forest range, and Ralph sells them in town. Lyle Hinkins bought 83,000 acres of rich farmland, but was too lazy to work it and finally died of starvation. Marita will go into Grand Opera, but just at the climax of her career will throw a tantrum, and walk out of the Metoprolitan Opera House, and all the way back ta Athena. Dick Wallingford will reach the top in the architectural field, and will design a new capitol for Oregon. The only trouble will be that Dick will pick the wrong site, and nobody will be able to find it. We find Gib Morrison busy at his job which is seventeenth vice president of the radar controlled, jet propelled, atomic powered yo-yo's. His aim in life is to become sixteenth vice president. Merle Mathwich is now president of the Athena Bank. His job is sitting with his feet propped up on a desk smoking big, black, smelly cigars. Pretty soft! That's natural. He was always the laziest in the class. Darlene Montee is nurse of John D. Rockfeller. At least she says she's his nurse. The only thing we see her doing is holding his hand and singing him lullabys. She always said she wanted to inherit a million dollars. Beverly Tucker has decided to become a great dog lover. She just has invented cn automatic flea catcher and back scratcher for her 23,558 dogs. Harriet Schmidtgall has become a bubble dancer in Portland, Oregon, selling straight pins on the side. She's getting tired of the name Oueenie Smitty and tells us she wants to retire to the farm some day. Frances Baker decided to move to Hansell Mountain and raise peas, wheat and kids.
