One of the exciting rewards of the NJROTC is the field trips that are avail- able to the naval cadets. McDowell Cadets participating in the first year program enjoyed a three-day visit to the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Flori- da in November. This was the highlight of the first semester's work and all the cadets worked hard in order to be select- ed for the trip. The cadets, 59 in all, and their sponsors were flown to Pensa- cola in a Navy C-118 4 engine transport aircraft. Steering a tugboat in the Gulf of Mexico, climbing over the wings and viewing into the complex, instrumental cockpit of the Navy's latest jet training planes, touring the U.S.S. Lexington (CVT), the Navy's training carrier, and having plenty of good food and recreation during their free time gave the cadets an apprecia- tion for the complexities and diversities of their great Navy.
